Hi everyone this is my Nevada white st300.... revo stage1 with revo carbon series intake system, rieger front splitter&Akrapovic exhaust..
Thought I'd add some additional pics now my Leon has been lowered on Eibach Pro-Kit springs, have to say this makes such a difference to the handling an ride of the car over standard it's like night/day. Looks better too in IMHO.

Interesting that lowering has improved both the handling and the ride over standard on such a recent car.
Often lowering has just the opposite effect, especially with the ride.
Can't say I'm too surprised to read that a Leon can be improved though. Father's 1.2 Dynamic SE which
supposedly has the same basic 'comfort' suspension as an Xcellence is OK as it goes by modern car
standards, but the ride is a bit fidgety and it's not as fluid a handler as my 9-year-old saloon of similar
size and weight.
I was inclined to blame the OTT 17" wheels and tyres at first, then it's usually the dampers that are the
weakest link on many standard cars - but it seems there is more to it in regards to the Leon.

Cars handling can always be improved with lowering springs at the detriment to ride comfort. Shorter springs = stiffer springs = less body roll = better handling but worse overall comfort. I'd take road handling over the minor loss of comfort all day long. Why waste time slowing down for corners you don't have to lol.
I have facelift fr with stock suspension and 18 inch wheels and I have zero complaints about the ride comfort and neither does my wife which means it definitely can't be that bad lol.

If the car is already stiff enough in roll then making it stiffer still by lowering won't help,
more likely make it rather worse overall by reducing the effective suspension travel.
Even if said springs are of better quality than the originals, (true, they often are) the
dampers may not be able to cope as well with the new spring rates.
Lowering can also interfere too much with the geometry and introduce new and
unwelcome traits to the handling and steering, depending on the car and to what
extent it's been altered.
Just fitting lowering springs can work, but is certainly not a guarantee of 'improvement' to
handling on many a vehicle as anyone who's driven a poorly-modded car can attest.

In terms of how cars can be driven on the road, I'd say that a decent set of springs will go a long way to improve the handling of a car, especially those without sports suspension which have softer springs for comfort. The ideal situation for any car would be to buy lowering springs but also pair them to a decent set of fast road dampers the are designed to work with a certain spring. For track use this is an entirely different conversation to be had. There are also compromises in the handling dependant on the lowering rate. The lower the springs you buy the more camber it adds and therefore less contact patch on the tyre. That's where a fully adjustable set of coils comes in.
Like with anything that is modified, it's a balancing act but for everyday road use a decent set of springs will do the job imo. Provides a better look, better handling at minimal detriment to overall comfort.
