Hello all,

Hopefully someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

So the oil light (Amber) came on my 1.2 TSI MY11 ibiza SC. The manual says this means the engine oil is low. However, I checked the oil while it was cold and it was in the middle of the dip stick gauge. nevertheless I added a little more oil to take it to just under the 3/4 mark. Unfortunately, this hasn't turned the light off. Thankfully it not flashing or red.

Trudging through various forums, it seems it could be a sensor issue. Has anyone come across this issue and found a fix?

thanks for your help.

Okay, seeing as no one else has replied yet, you real do need to find out what the problem is, the cheapest way must be to stop using that car until you have replaced that pressure sensor, then take it from there, even getting the oil pressure measured to make sure that you don’t have a bigger problem, slack chain noises should be heard if the pressure is way too low.

Edit:- does that engine have an oil level sensor, I obviously did not read your posting fully - sorry!

VCDS or dealer diagnostic tool would be able to tell if the level sensor had an issue, I’d hope!

Another Edit:- in case you did not know, the oil level sensor is just 2 heated strips with a temperature sensor on each maybe check the cable condition in the area of the sensor - or fuses?

Thanks RUM4MO,

So Sit Rep.
The light went out on its own last night when I turned the ignition on yesterday. Had to travel last night and since all seemed well; Drove around 100 miles and had no lights, no warnings and no abnormal sounds. However, turned it on this morning and the light was back on. Checked the oil level again (all good) and turned the ignition on, and light is gone.

Oil lights do give you squeaky bum time for sure.
I had a Coupe quattro with a duff oil pressure sensor which lit the lamp and fired off the warning horn at high speed (although the gauge pressure was ok) After changing the sensor it happened again! Turned out the Audi design had separate sensors for the light and the gauge and the technician had changed the wrong one.
You can't just risk it though if the car tells you the oils gone can you?

Yes, it does help to have an oil pressure gauge, at least all my Audis and VW so far have had a coolant temperature gauge - as di my VX Cav GSI and Ford Orion Ghia Injections, I find it strange that a c car company like SEAT do not seem to bother about coolant temperature gauges on most of their lesser models.
