I done my first mod all by myself. With the exception of fitting wind deflectors I haven't done anything to any car before. This is a small mod but its made the world of difference to the looks of the car and made me smile doing it.
I sprayed the wheel nut covers black as they let down the look of the car.
Small and simple but effective.

And yes I know they will look much better if I cleaned the wheels as well.

Looks nice them being black

my first "mod" was changing all non LED lights to LED on the inside of the car, small mod but is much better than it was

Would you mind sharing some links of the leds you used?:)
In regards to nut covers you can probably buy some black ones for the price of a spray but yea nice to do something by yourself :)

First post but have been lurking for a few weeks. Picked up a 15 plate FR184 DSG with Tech Pack a month or so ago and have been doing a few bits. Trying to remember them all now but;

Fan washers
Boot struts
Red LED footwell lights
LED fog lights
Auto light switch
Auto lights/wipers sensor
Team Heko wind deflectors
Pressed metal plates
Various VCDS changes for the above and other things.

Finally got chance to give it a proper detail this weekend too and chuffed with how well it came out!

Hi,
How hard it was to put the LED fog lights? Did you do it by yourself?

I did the arch liner undone method starting with the passenger side which was a ballache and that's without the winter pack. Gave that up as a bad job and did the driver's side in 2 minutes to work out which way things twist and plug in etc. The hardest bit was trying to get the passenger side plug back on with the one finger I could get to it with.

Thanks for the info!

Now that's something I need to do. My caps look just like that, after visiting a hand car wash. Autoglym vinyl care spray doesn't make any difference to them either so spray it is.

Damn this look great how much time it took you for doing this?

Thanks Bega.
It took a couple of hours for each side, quicker for the second one as I had an idea how to do it. £3 roll of 4D carbon wrap from eBay was more than enough to do it too so it's a cheap mod. Just be careful removing the panels if you do do it - I broke the small clips in the accompanying picture on the first side (2 were already broken on the second side as they're pretty small and weak) However the remaining clips are really strong and the panels are sitting tight in their slots after wrapping.

Surely it would be much easier to just pop to the dealership and buy some new black ones... They're cheap as chips anyway, and every other model gets the black ones as standard. Seems a lot of buggering about doing all that spraying (which may itself come off anyway) when you can just buy them in black.

Hmm facelift is growing on me, aside from the ridiculous black box in the middle of the grille, but both look awesome, my FR is monsoon grey as well, love it

If they are cheap as chips, replacements are definitely the better way to go. Just assumed that any OEM part bought would be expensive. There's also the consideration that the plastic is susceptible to this staining for some reason (I've never had it happen with any of my previous cars) and so you'd end up having to constantly replace the bloomin' things...

Wait, have the originals been sprayed silver? Looking at the pic I'd assumed they'd been sprayed and then worn off. If they've stained like that then yeah, that's really weird. I've never seen black ones do that. Unless you meant the new silver ones would do the same thing again... In which case, they probably will, so buy black ones ;-)

They really are cheap though pal. Not pence obviously, but no so much as to put you off. You can actually get them on eBay, as long as you're careful to get the right size! There was a thread on here a while back with someone asking about them. They have a tendency of dropping off if not quite seated right, and that really does look crap.

I enjoyed all the buggering about spraying them myself. I don't know what colour they were supposed to be new but at least now I have a tin of spray and do them as many times as I like.
Much more satisfying than driving to a dealers.

Just got this through the post. I am a little disappointed as it's just a couple of thin bits of plastic that you glue over the existing fob. I thought it would be more substantial considering it cost £25!!!

I also got some wheel nut covers as the existing ones are pretty scabby. I never had any issues with the covers on my previous FR. I assume it must be when folk use acid based wheel cleaner.

Out of interest, how much did the wheel nut covers cost and where did you get them from, Peller? Mine are in need of replacing as you'll see from posts above.
