And have metallic paint... And be cheaper

Sorry...

At least you're not being slated by fellow Megane owners for not getting a 275 Cup-S or Focus RS or a Type-R.

A fellow Megane owner had a mapped Megane 250, then got a Cupra 280 and said how much faster it felt and was. He has now got a Focus RS and says that the RS is faster off the mark but no faster (if a tad slower even) than the Cupra 280 once you're rolling. I can only hope that the 290 is faster still and that 290PS actually equates to about 305-310PS once run in.

Haha no worries. Just the way the cookie crumbles. If you wait forever for the best deal you will never end up taking the plunge.

I haven't even test driven a cupra yet. Can't wait.

Well, it looks like that after nearly 6 years away from Seat ownership, that I'll be using UK Central Vehicle Leasing to hopefully get a 290 manual 5-door (black edition) in Monsoon Grey. I just can't decide on the hatch or ST as both are the same price at £132/pcm (5000 miles) or £156/pcm (8000 miles). I really want to see one in the flesh but I think Unicorns and money trees are less rare to find!

Hey dude, I've gone for an Ice Silver DSG with them!
Should be a bit of a step up from my 1.4 FR

Just a note, it may work out cheaper for you to take the 5k annual mileage and pay 7.2p per excess mile. (£72 for 1k etc)

I worked it out as about £6/m cheaper to pay the excess miles at 8k.

I looked at all these options before deciding on a Cupra 290..

Megane was a great car, although didn't feel as refined as the Cupra, Focus RS is still a Focus and I hate the Ford high seating position - Never got on with it. Type-R is interesting but expensive, looks a bit mad for me and suspension is REALLY hard on the road..

Cupra 290 seems to offer the best of all Worlds when looking across that range - Style, drive, build quality etc.

The 280/290 seems to have been the forgotten cousin of both the S3 and Golf-R - well, by the general public at least. The motoring press seem to choose the Cupra over both quite a lot of the time too.

Mixed emotions yesterday, sad because after 2 fun filled years it was my final day with my Ice Silver 280 :wave:, happy because I picked up a new Alor Blue 290 to replace it . They overlapped by a few hours so made the most of the photo opportunity :cam:

Both cars were specced the same, 5 door manual with only extras being metallic paint and a spare wheel, so not a great deal of difference externally or internally - just the larger screen in the 290 & USB in the centre console (must admit I preferred the set up in the older car where I could just leave an ipod plugged in the glovebox, out of sight), also the rear armrest in new car.

Driving wise, too early to tell I think. The 280 had done 13K miles so had loosened up nicely and absolutely flew, it felt quite raw and edgy whereas in comparison the 290 feels quite tight and composed - but it has only done 50 miles. Interestingly the chap who I had been dealing with at the Seat dealer suggested I give it plenty of stick for the first 2000 miles to ensure it reached its full potential, and as he will be getting the car back I feel I should follow his advice. Must admit I was expecting the 290 exhaust to be louder, from inside the car I'm struggling to hear any difference, although not necessarily gutted about that as it is the main family car and used for some long journeys 4 up. Better pics to follow once its had it first proper wash.

Prefer the Alor Blue. Did you not want to mask the rear plates as well? Or is it photoshopped?

A few magazines have found the focus RS to be slower than the ford claimed in gear acceleration figures. I figure it has a bit of a weight issue. I think the Top Gear drag race with the a45 and Golf R showed this. Fair enough, it was the only manual in the test but it's still got launch control, it got the best launch of the 3, had a decent driver doing the shifting yet it still came last losing out to a car that was 50ps down.

Just ordered a Cupra :) Have been looking at and wanting a Golf R for ages but had a couple of test drives and it just didn't bring a smile. I thought I'd try a 290 because I've always missed my Mk2 Cupra and ended up placing a deposit :D

Went with a Cupra 290 Black Sub8 5dr in Midnight Black with bucket seats. So excited!

Didn't think you could get the 290 Black with black paint, though I'm sure it would look super stealthy :D

That's what I thought but it's on the spec sheet  Apparently they sometimes get weird combinations through from SEAT UK, just have to make sure it's as described upon collection :)

Popped into Seat dealers Saturday just for a nose, ended up signing for a new 290 5 door Black, emocion red same as current. Hopefully gets delivered in two weeks as one of the spec we want at port. Happy days :D

Took delivery today and it is a 290 Black Sub8 in Midnight black, phew!

Grats! Bet you're well chuffed. How is it like to drive and how would you compare it to your old Seats?

I ordered mine roughly 2 weeks ago, 290 BE 5dr Monsoon grey, can't wait. I'm interested to see how hard it pulls and whether or not i'd be able to make it burble after accelerating to 4k.

I've not driven it much yet, was absolutely knackered last night and it was only the excitement of a new car kept me awake! The bucket seats are great, the handling is better than my mk2 Cupra and I'd say it pulls very well. Probably feels like a mk2 with a remap. There isn't as much instant go as my DTUK FR which had mountains of torque, but it's far from ponderous!

It's a big jump over the FR 184, feels like a special car, whereas the 184 (and Golf R and S3 I test drove) just felt too plain. I've managed one exhaust pop so far too (it's a manual) :D

When mine got delivered the guy from the garage said it was ready to go and to drive it how I want. No easing in required.

Like all performance cars though, make sure the engine has warmed up before you give it the beans
