Poor radio signal/reception DAB/FM

Anyone experiance this?

Changing from a MK5 golf with the Nav and FM antenna on the roof moving to the Leon with FM/DAB and Nav I've found the radio reception worse. I have the Nav High DAB Nav unit.

I assume the FM/DAB antenna is in the rear screen (no roof antenna)

This has come to light with experimenting of dash cams, some interference is caused by some but now even without these plugged in the signal isn't very good.

In particular part of one route I drive daily is rubbish. Most of the time it reverts to FM and then struggles.

Others who drive this route in other cars don't have this issue.

Maybe the leads come Unplugged!!!!

Anyone else had similar?

I def noticed when I installed my dash cam the signal def seemed weaker but it doesn't cause me any problems.

Yes had this problem too from start , was so much better with antenna on the roof as the mk2 leon

Worth taking it back to seat though, I had the issue on my leons, both of them came back with We can't find any fault You must have damaged your back screen ariel will need replacing and NOT under warranty, we can do it tomorrow (bollox have I)
Anyway both times after the dealer visit the dab reception has improved to a point it only losses it occasionally, as opposed to at every other cats eye as before ;-)

So I think it's a loose or porely made or not properly in joint or connection and them pulling it all about looking for the fault somehow fixes it or the connector gets pushed home correctly, who knows as they didn't even relize they had made it better lol

So worth taking it back to the dealer

I believe that the DAB aerial is integrated into the rear windscreen & there is a specific instruction from SEAT that stickers (including dealer stickers) shouldn't be placed on the rear window as it could cause damage/interference.

Does your car have a dealer sticker on the rear windscreen? - if so take it back to the supplying dealer & get them to take it off.....carefully.

Ideally if your car was supplied to you with a dealer sticker in place you could argue the damage is the dealers fault & they're liable.

I read about this. I had my car almost totally unprepared so no sticker, don't think my dealer does that anyway. I didn't know they had actually told dealers not to stick these in.

I did a search for this signal issue and couldn't find much.

Mine wasn't related to bumps or cats eyes, I just ment it lost dab signal a LOT, for no reason, after the dealer played around with it I only lost the signal very occasionally

If you do decide to take it to the dealer, before you do, carefully check the two thin lines -dab and sat Nav aerials- above the window heating element for any signs of damage, as the dealer default answer for poor dab reception seems to be, you must have damaged the ariel on the glass putting stuff in the boot, you need a new rear screen

Yes, excellent thanks. Will look. As you say just a default response.

I'm tempted to phone several dealers speak to the service managers and get some info on what they look for and history of the problem.
Combined with this info from the owners side of the fence!

On my last issue (unrelated) dealers had different ideas. No harm in asking.

Well I had the 1st service today.
Asked reference the signal and they say they can test the ariel to see if it work ok. But would need a seperate booking in.

On another note the technician who filled the oil up either has the shakes or needs to be issued with a funnel.

That's half the issue, where is the bench mark. I can only compare to my previous car (mk5 golf with roof ariel and FM only)

Can't see me persuading my local dealer to test drive another Leon on the same route. Maybe worth asking...

Hi, I've just moved from a mk7 golf with no roof ariel to 2017 Leon. Golf had no reception issues but the Leon has lots of dead zones, in areas the golf was fine.

Did anyone get a final answer?

I haven't sadly. Mine has improved and one of my dash cams wasn't helping. Certain points on my regular journeys it swaps to FM and back. Some days if the weather is dismal it makes the DAB signal worse, other people I work with in others cars can then suffer SOME loss of signal.
