Speakers and Head Unit

I don't have a Cupra model but I have some questions about the audio! Firstly the speakers, I'm guessing the grills pop off if you lever a screwdriver underneath but what about the actual speaker? I know they are 17cm ones and seeing as they components I have a pair of alpine ones from my old car, can I just unscrew them and fit these instead?

When it comes to the head unit, I have no removal tool! Is there anything else I can use instead? When it comes to fitting a new one, do I need any kind of trim adapter or can I just pop in the new cage and plug it in?

Cheers!

The speakers should just be screwed in mate. Not sure what kind of screws though as I haven't actually removed them (speaking from experience of other cars).

If they're the same size there shouldn't be a reason they don't fit, the facia you get on aftermarket components may not fit but you won't know until you get in there. Also the screw holes may not be lined up perfectly so additional drilling may be required and the connection may differ so have some connectors of different variations at hand just in case. Aftermarket speaker normally require a spade connector IIRC.

As far as the head unit goes. If you having a couple of long and thin flat heads you can normally just about manage to get the head unit out. Alternatively, buy some online, they're only cheap just make sure you get correct ones!

Putting the new head unit in should be easy enough, just put plug in all the connections, put the cage in and you'll have power! You'll probably need a facia though!

Pretty sure the whole door card needs to come off to get to the speakers on the Cupra's.

And you probably find the speakers will be riveted in if they've not been removed before.

Correct, the grill doesn't come off on the Cupra door cars, it's all one unit.

This could be correct, you won't know until you take the door card off. The last couple of cars I've had the standard speakers are on with torx screws or Phillips screws but never had a look inside the door card in my Cupra yet (until I reveal my door and sort my regulator out).

You will need a facia adaptor as the oem radio is wider than a standard single din radio.
The standard speakers sound quite good. I left the front ones in but beings a 90's boy racer I fitted 6x9's on the parcel shelf as the rear door speakers don't sound great!

I've never heard of 'engine whine' when it comes to head units and amplifiers.

As far as I know, generally aftermarket head units (especially single DIN) have less power output than standard ones.

What do you mean by engine whine anyway? Engines shouldn't whine full stop haha. Plus the engine doesn't directly have anything to do with the power of an amplifier or any other electrics. That's down to the alternator and the battery which requires the engine to power.

I think an elaboration is required. If you think it will be a lengthy discussion, consider creating another thread mate.

If you stick into eBay 'Seat Leon Facia' you'll find plenty!

Should look like this:

I'm fitting a radio

Hello leestudd35.

I'm fitting a new radio onto my European Leon (not Cupra) and I also realized that the speakers are riveted but can be easly changed (using a small drill) and continue to use the existing speaker's support.
Regarding the radio there are fascia plates as others members have described. The radio connection I made was using a SEAT to ISO adapter and it's working fine but you may loose the display on the maindash.

See ya.

I mean the one line display on the Instrument Cluster Speedo. Don't you have one? My Leon its not a Cupra it's just a petrol leon from 2000.

Am I right in thinking you have a factory fitted sat nav to have the stereo display on the clocks?
I know some Toledo V5's came with this option.

Yes, I guess UK Leon's may not have this display beetween the Vel & Rev.
It's a single line digital display that only shows the radio frequency or RDS name.

Anyone had engine whine issue with after market head units and amps?

If memory serves.
Its caused by poor earthing on the amp(s). The earth cable needs to be as short as possible and as beefy as possible.
Also its sead that you shouldnt have the power cables ans RCAs running down the car side by side as this causes interference aswell.

Ive had the engine wine noise aswell:)
