I've never understood people who knock the interior either. I picked up my 290 4 weeks ago and absolutely love it. Can't wait for roads to warm/dry up a bit !

10 weeks from end of October but that included delay due to Christmas :))

Well if that would be the same for me, that would mean i'll get my cupra in about a month. It seems to go faster in the UK then here in Belgium. My dealer said when i orderd mine it would take about 4-5 month ish. He even said worst case senario it could take 6 months....

I got lucky and they had the exact spec I wanted pre built. So it only took 4 weeks for me. Can't get over the power. It's a split personality car, and IMO more fun than the Golf R I know many people consider when looking at the Cupra.

Picked up my 290 on Saturday, and have covered a couple of hundred miles in it already. I'll just say to anyone considering, do it. I've come from a diesel Mk6 golf, and don't understand people who are saying the Leons have awful interiors. Much prefer the Cupra inside. Any Cupra owners in the Cambridge area?

Im in cambs area, running a 280,

Anyone have a 290 with DSG?? is the foot rest alloy or plastic? ive seen pictures of LHD 290's with a metal plate and wondered if the RHD one get one too, if so il look at getting one.

cheers

Hello there,
New Cupra 280 owner (MY 2016) , just picked it up yesterday. I was waiting for the 290 to be released, read this entire forum beforehand but I couldn't pass on a very good deal here in Germany for the 280, as the dealers are preparing for the 290 and they want to clear the 280 stock. Most second-hand cars in the market go for the same price as I got for a new one.
I'm very enthusiastic about it :D did 500 km yesterday from the place I had to pick it up from.
What I found strange about this Seat dealer was that for the run in period I got the recommendation to not use Cupra profile mode for the first 1000 km and I find this odd for every new owner, as one can have no clue and just abuse it even in comfort mode...As I've read a little about the first 1000 km's, I know that I have to keep it cool with rpms and speed ( that doesnt mean granny).
Btw, it's a 5dr nevada white DSG, full option and that lovely panorama roof :D only thing missing is the Full Link activation.
P.S turned into wall text ( sorry )

I asked the Seat dealer how I should run the engine in, and he looked at me like I was speaking another language. He told me I could shred the tyres from day 1. (Exact quote.) I've been taking it easy though, will do for the first 500 miles or so at least.

It's been a week now since arriving at the UK port. Still heard nothing from the dealer :(

Getting desperate as my old car goes Saturday! Still hoping for Monday next week, but my hopes are fading fast...

Pick up my 290 on Sunday. I've never had to wait so long for a new car but I'm sure it will be worth it! Trading in a superb SuperCopa Diesel for it. The dealer described it as "mint" so hurry, hurry, hurry down to Eastbourne!!

Good.

Warm the engine properly, then don't be afraid to use the full throttle now and then but don't redline it for the first say 500miles.

I've owned two sporty demo cars that probably had a quite rough start in life and neither used any oil...
I quess the most important part trough the whole ownership is to drive off with a very light throttle (some revs 3k rpm is ok) when the engine is bone cold.

Sat on arse
Picked the 290 up from a very snowy and icy Manchester this morning and have already done 100 miles in it. First impressions are superb. Weather has been poor so not had chance to check out the performance much. But once the engine was warm I did have a stab in cupra mode up to about 5k revs, and well, I am frankly astonished at the rate this thing picks up speed! Big step up in performance from my bmw 125d, which was no slouch. Soooo nice being back in a petrol engine.

And the sound of the exhaust is pretty impressive with a fairly deep bass soundtrack and a few pops and cracks on overrun. Even my Mrs likes it!

The tech is impressive too, the Apple car play took 5 mins to set up and everything like messaging and voice control works great with Siri.

It's a comfortable car and the standard seats seem fine, plus it's fairly spacious.

Safe to say I have no regrets with the 290. Just hope the weather improves for the weekend!
