Hi,

I have just finished installing an Android head unit, the one I bought was this unit;

http://www.icar-tech.de/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=657&slider_vx7-shop=

Yes I could have bought one the Chinese unit for 1/2 the price, but I wanted good support for the unit in English, and after speaking with them for over 2 months, decided to take the leap. I am very impressed with the unit, it is straight plug and play. If you already have sat nav, the factory antenna fits, the radio connections is same as the factory, and the quad lock is a straight connection, no canbus box needed to save on space, built in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Bluetooth streaming. It displays the heater controls, the reverse camera input even shows the steering wheel angle lines, the standard music play sound very good, with enough adjustment to suit everyone's tastes and the standard sat nav program Navfree is decent. You can opt to buy their premium version, but I think for now this is good enough. You can add any sat nav program to the unit or any music player, and it should mute the music for the sat nav instructions. it does display basic info on the mfd like radio station names and phone number for the Bluetooth, does not display track names except track number, the steering wheel controls work ut of the box, and can be customized to your needs. It has voice control, which I have set my microphone button on the steering wheel. The screen is very clear. I bought the unit mostly for the sound adjustment, it has a sub out with freq and level adjustment, and its 4v output, decent eq, and few other setting I have yet to figure out. It also allows a max of 500gb hard drive to be connected to the usb input, which it has 2 and an micro sd card. I have a
128gb memory stick which works great, it take a while to index on 1st connection, but after that it plays music within 5 secs. I am still playing with the unit, but so its really good so far, any question anyone want to know about the unit let me know.

Hi,

So far it connects to my Wi-Fi as soon as I get into the drive, I've download map updates, app updates, etc. if I tether my phone for Wi-Fi, that works good too.

Been looking at some in car wifis but on top of the stereo price gets a bit expensive. Want to use apps like Spotify and tunein. I can use them for mine now via bluetooth but have to set it up everytime and gets a bit much

Is the deal with Android Auto that your smartphone does all the work via an App that is thought to be a bit pants ? Or have I missed the point ?

After doing some research ive cooled off this. Seems to favour the iPhone too much and too much extra is needed to work with android. Ive got s6 and its not suported which is strange. And i also though this have nav which again you have to pay extra for.

As much as I think smartphones are marvellous things, I'm always wary of anything being seen as the solution to all known problems, I would much prefer a dedicated head unit.

U have google maps, music, Google. Now. I can't remember what else. And when a message come in it will read it out and u can reply by voice also. For me the fact that I can do that is great. I spend nearly three hrs a day in the car.
