Cupra 290?

Does anyone know when the SEAT UK website, configurator, brochures and price list are going to include the "new" Cupra 290?

Apart from this forum and a SEAT press release dated 7th September 2015 (which doesn't mention any launch or availability dates), no one would even be aware that a Cupra 290 was planned for the UK, let alone could be ordered!

The current brochure and price list available to download from the SEAT UK website are both dated October 2015, a month after SEAT's press release announcing the Cupra 290, so there should have been sufficient time to include it!

If SEAT are really interested in maximising sales, you would have thought that a high priority would be to at least maintain a fully up to date website!

Here's the response after bothering them on twitter:

"Hi Roy, apologies for the delay with this one. We are looking into this for you and will let you know as soon as we have an update."

When I picked mine up last week I asked if there was any update and the sales team told me they still hadn't been told anything and that they had the same problem with the Ibiza Cupra. Seat did a press release then have held all info from dealers. Very strange.

There's a full back page advert for cupra 290 in this month's evo magazine so they're marketing it , seems that the website team are not in touch with the advertising team which imo is poor performance.

Quite bizarre considering that SEAT are part of one of the biggest vehicle manufacturing companies in the world, you would imagine with resources to match!

I have just checked SEAT UK's website again this evening (Monday 16th November), and although I still cannot find any reference at all on the website or in the configurator to the Cupra 290 (both of which still only list the Cupra 280), there is an updated (November 2015) edition of the Leon brochure and price list (added to the website today?) which you can download as pdf documents, both of which do include the "new" Cupra 290, with all references to the "previous" Cupra 280 removed!

It will be interesting to see how long it takes SEAT to update the rest of their UK website including the configurator!

I agree, the 'launch' of the 290 has been a shambles. I just ordered mine today for delivery in early March. I dealt with lookers SEAT in Stockport who have been very helpful and knowledgable, considering SEAT's marketing department appears to be run by trained chimps. Sorry that's unfair to chimps

Anyway here's what I went for:

Cupra 290
Manual
5 door
Ice Silver
Multi black alloys

I didn't bother with any other options as the car is pretty well specced as standard. I was deliberating between monsoon grey and ice silver, but went for the silver as it shows off the lines of the bodywork and looks good with the multi spoke alloys imho.

To anyone looking to order, the lead time with standard alloys is now 21 weeks+ due to shortage of alloys. I therefore opted for the multi spokes, which bring the lead time down to 9 weeks plus Christmas shutdown of factory.

Should look like this; http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...dcars&model=leon&keywords=Cupra 280&logcode=p

Now the long wait!

Ice silver....interesting choice. I normally don't like silver much but I think it works really well on the cupra.

I would agree with that but I am biased...

I originally ordered Monsoon Grey but was offered this one from dealer network stock and took it to avoid waiting a further 4 months. I still like the grey but have no regrets, the silver has grown on me and contrasts well with the dark trim, windows etc,

Like you I nearly went for Monsoon Grey, but after looking at the silver, I think it really suits the Cupra with the dark contrasting features. Most cupras seem to be white or grey, so I'm daring to be different. There can't be many silver cupras in the uk! I've only ever seen 2 cupras on the road since they went on sale. Must see 5 or 6 golf R's on the road every day...common as muck!

My current car is white and I have grown to despise it, especially in the winter. Nightmare to keep clean and looks shite unless pristine.

The manager at my SEAT dealership clarified for me today that the 280 that I ordered 4 weeks ago will definitely be a 290 as he has checked the factory system and is being built next week so I should be one of the first to have a 290 mid/late December... they also confirmed that they will soak up any extra charges as I had a bit of a moan about the 290 costing more than the agreed price on the 280 :) bonus.

I did have to call Seat UK to get involved this morning and had a moan at them
About the amount of money spending and that getting frustrated no answers from dealer - hey presto - 3 hours later a call from dealers with all the info I needed.
