Yeh, I remember reading about the MK3 Cupra before we actually got the car, and at that time there was going to be a Cupra and a Cupra R. The Cupra was the 265 version we now have, and the R just got renamed the Cupra 280, so there will be no R.

Well in Holland and Germany rumours are about a Cupra 290 and and a Cupra R 4wd with 310 Hp.
Some dealers say both are on their way.
But consider regarding the 290 version: al Cupra's tested on a teststand showed between 294 to 308 hp where the majority have around 300 hp so a 290 version makes no sense at all.
4Wd version is to be seen and start price can only little (2-3K?) more than the current 280.

What do dealers know, the SEAT boss stated a while back that as 4WD adds weight they would not be going down that route and if you really want 4WD, buy a (VAG) GolfR7.

I remember that too, mainly online speculation of the two engines.

Will be available before the end of the year apparently but not in the UK. Different engine code as well.

Been reading up on the 290 'rumour' a quite a bit as I've currently got a 280 on order. Not gonna comment on the 4WD rumour haha. Not seen anything other than chatter.

Google translate you may need:

Summary of reading (Seat themselves need to confirm):
Not a FL as such as its half way during MY2016. Marketing purposes based on competitors? Also keeps the press talking about the car.
Talk of a new exhaust for 290 but only seen that as forum chatter.
Looks like a suspension of cupra build between wk45-49. Meaning deliveries at beginning of 2016 for 290.
Obligatory price increase.
As I ordered in June I'm confident I'm in the 280 club but no build week yet.
Wonder if they've got the badges ready in time this time round.

Edit to add: every chance UK won't get this. As an Itallian website I read said the 290 was coming for Europe as far back as beginning of July.

Well that seems a bizarre decision to make. Given the 265 was discontinued due to poor sales in the UK, you'd think it fairly obvious there is demand in the UK for a faster unit.

Maybe they will give it the R exhaust. And different engine code by much Andrew or will it be like a mk2 Cupra to R? Hopefully it will be a nice and cheap interchangeable upgraded part you and maybe myself can procure :)
