Door card bubbling, quality issue?

My door card is bubbling on my Cupra 280. The top of the door card with the leather/ soft touch material above where the LED lights are has started to bubble under the surface. It's really noticeable and rather ugly. I'll post an image tomorrow - I'm also going to call my local stealers to get it replaced under warranty. Not good.

I have now taken pictures of my issue:

As you can see, it's bubbling under the surface.

I took the car down to Seat today and had it looked at. The mechanic took pictures of it to send off for a decision regarding warranty. He said, and I quote, "You never know what cleaning products have been used on it; that might have caused it". If it isn't replaced under warranty I'll be extremely disappointed as this is clearly a manufacturing issue.

I'll wait and see how it goes. In the meantime if anybody else has this issue with any of their door cards please let me know!

Hi mate, no, I don't. I'm 5 ft 6 so my arm can't get up there comfortably anyway.

Thanks for the luck - are they really that bad? I had a Volkswagen Polo before my Cupra and VW were excellent

you should get that covered on warranty, that wont be the issue, its what they do to fix it if they cba replacing the whole thing that will be the reoccurring problem imo

They're not the best at Warranty work, if it's a known problem or a fault they can't argue with they are usually ok but if it's something they don't want to be involved in or can't be bothered to look at they're not interested.

You're not on your own, I've been living with bubbling on the drivers door trim for a while now.

I've mentally added it to my warranty list when I get around to visiting the nearest dealer.

The door cards and the whole interior trim have had nothing barring a damp cloth and duster used on them.

Meant to say the bubbling is in the exact same area as yours, I dont put my elbow on there either.

Unless youre related to the dungeon keeper, your elbows shouldnt be the cause of the problem. Andy I would advise you not to mention the word damp when you see them though, water damaged however unlikely will be the first straw they grasp

As others say, this should be replaced under warranty - hopefully that will be the case. The mechanic said he hadn't seen it before but they say that with everything in my experience!

Couldn't agree more! Plus I think many people have missed a key point here - the material that is bubbling is water proof. It's sealed onto the plastic card by adhesive. Unless you used a pressure washer inside the car and blasted the door card there's no way this would happen. General cleaning isn't the cause - poor workmanship probably is.

I've always looked at it to be some kind of manufacturing flaw with the adhesive, or some latent reaction to heat through the glass depending on how your parked in relation to the sun, having said that they sell these in Spain dont they Funny its in the same place as JACUPRA280

I've suffered first hand from this "water damage" for a faulty electric window switch on my first leon, apparently I'd left the window open - eventually got it repaired, just be careful.

In my new leon I had another window switch replaced (different problem and dealer). And what I found weird was when they declared it would be fixed under warranty they made it sound like they were really doing me a favour - kind of hard to explain, but it's like it wasn't natural for them.
A problem I find with some seat dealer's is they are part of a multi car dealership, so there's just no brand love.

If Seat get arsy about it, I'll use your photo as ammunition if that's okay. Fingers crossed they sort it but I'm a glass half empty kind of guy .

Mine appeared early doors, maybe within the first 4 months, wondered to myself at first if it was in my head but it got progressively worse to the level it's at now, it's looked like that for a while. No doubt at some point it'll look like a burst sofa. A warranty visit to a dealer is long overdue

My warranty list as it stands today...

• Door Card - Bubbling on O/S/F door card trim

• Centre Armrest - collapses, times it holds time it doesn't, used to work every time without fail.

• Handbrake - applying/releasing feels rough whereas before it had a slick ratchet motion

• Headlights - growth/mould in the corners

• AirCon - was never cold. warmer than the 5yr old golf I traded-in that never saw re-gassing. Think I'll be out of luck with this one due to time.

I feel the handbrake and Centre Armrest are connected, ie; somethings went amiss with whatever mechanism is housed within that centre tunnel/console.

Is there a Haynes Manual out for these yet? last I looked there wasn't, mind you that was a wee while back.

I'll use your photo as ammunition if that's okay.

Speaking of which, my air con has never been cold either. Today I noticed it immediately because it's so bloomin' hot outside. A simple re-gas should fix that. I won't be doing it through Seat though!

I doubt they'll do anything about your handbrake issue. You might have a hard time convincing them to take it apart, but who knows.

I think this is possibly as a result of seats design flaw of water running off the roof and hitting the door card.

Can't even open the widow without being soaked.
