Looking to buy, what should I pay?

Having just gone through the negotiation process with 2 local dealers in the last 2 days, neither could get anywhere near DTD or the best Carwow offer. One told me to go and buy it from the cheaper offer I found and another tried their best (improved on first offer to 9% then added some free servicing etc).

As much as you try and go local it seems that the Internet is the place to buy a new motor...

I still think buying a car that's already in stock is the much cheaper route, you just don't get to spec the car exactly how you would like. I couldn't justify essentially a 4-5k increase in price just for a couple of extras....those are really expensive options lol.
I ended up with a 4 month old technic grey 1.4 Act 5dr fr with 2000 miles on the clock. It's got the tech pack, 18 inch wheels, adaptive cruise control and convenience pack (essential for myself) all for 15800.

£17,750 for 10month old FR with standard spec 14 reg 4500miles on and Like NEW
Cheapest New Car the same I could find was over 250miles away with Del charge ontop & around £19,300
so I passed on that....
Does anyone that's daft enough pay the RRP... ?
don't forget HMRC is getting £3833.33 of VAT off a New car at £23k which to all of us is DEAD money that just vanishes off the Value of the NEW Car the Min it drives away off the Forecourt.

Looking at DtD a Emoicon Red FR 184 with no options is £19229 ..

Personally I spent ages looking then found a 14 reg 9K miles, 2 litre monsoon grey SE with tech pack, spare wheel, lane assist and convenience pack for £12800...

Granted it doesn't have any leather in the seats and doesn't have climate control but as I couldn't find any FR anywhere near that price it seemed pointless to continue looking...

I paid 17480 for a new fr 1.4 with the spec I wanted I went for the alacantara seat, convieance, winter, led and technology pack. I also got 3 years servicing included. This was a factory order due to the spec.
They were selling used cars in the forecourt for more than I had paid so I was quiet happy.
Def best speaking to them about any deals first on a new one.

I probably should have been clearer. I stopped looking as I bought that 14 reg SE... Given that it has the 2litre 150bhp engine I really couldn't justify the extra money on the fr badge and a few different options....

Over the weekend I went to my local dealer and test drove a black FR Diesel 184 with a couple of extras. Really nice car to drive and I fell in love with it.

My only problem is equity in my old car, the local dealer offered me a pittance for my old car meaning it was in negative equity. Therefore not worth the deal they offered.

I've got Orange wheels due to give me a call back later to see if they can sort something out for me. It looks a bit more promising but I'll have to see. If not I'll just have to wait a few months till I have enough equity. I'll be gutted if that is the case!

Thanks for everyones help:clap:

Separate out the transaction into its parts:-

What money would the buying services (car-ching.co.uk, thecarbuyingservice.co.uk) give you?

They are offering approx £2000 less than what is outstanding. My dealer offered me £1000 less than what is outstanding. Hence why I think it is just going to be a case of waiting a while.

I'm not going to rush into it and end up paying silly money for the car, I don't want to make another mistake like I did buying the previous car:cry:

Does anyone have a cupra 280 on a PCP, if so how much are you paying per month and what deposit did you put down?

Theres no easy way with Cars esp new ones...
Creep before you can walk tho...
I didn't have my first new car until I was 34 & I borrowed a small amount to get it with.
Anyhow sold previous Car privately for best deal & then got best deal on the new one.
I kept it 10yrs & have no regrets atall in doing so.
Does the same again this time except I had the savings to buy its rep outright & boxed clever
not buying new this time too much dropping off them within first 6months, let someone else take the hit I thought, not that age & experience does help but you are the only one who will ultimately know what you want to do. Flash new cars mean little coz all they do is get you into debt & loose money hand over foot.
And of course when your older other things have more meaning in life than new Cars every two or three years.

My last two cars have both been new cars and this time I'm going to move away from new and go for ex demo/ few month old vehicle. I made mistakes on the last car (although I did get a good deal) it's just not the right car for me.

I'd hoped there would be enough equity in this car for me to trade in for the Leon however as I've found out there isn't enough equity available. That just means I'll have to be patient and wait a while instead of shelling out silly money and getting tied down in a long deal.

Looks like I might be in the minority here, but my local(ish) dealer was willing to match the best price for our new car from a range of national dealers from CarWow. Think I ended up getting a discount in the region of £4k on the list price. The sales guy I negotiated with had to go back to his manager 2-3 times to double check the price that was agreed.

Was obviously very pleased with the outcome... ;-)

While I didn't quite get £4k off, Cecil and Larter in Bury St Edmunds came to within £150 of the DtD quote I took with me when I ordered my ST FR 1.4ACT and did part ex on my old car too at a price fixed when I ordered.

Marshalls in Cambridge on the other hand wouldn't budge from about £250 discount on the proviso I'd have to take my chances with the part ex value of my car at collection time.
