Looking to buy, what should I pay?

I previously owned an Ibiza which was a great car, I traded this in about 18 months ago (unfortunately) for a Toyota Yaris. Worst decision EVER! I made a big mistake didn't test drive bought on a whim but did get a fairly decent deal on it.

I hate the car and have wanted rid of it almost as soon as I got it. I'm finally at a point where I do have a very small bit of equity in the car and I'm looking to trade for a Leon.

I was after a nearly new Leon SC FR 184 ideally with the 18" wheels. I've seen one in black at my local dealers online for around £19,000 with 12,000 miles. Bearing in mind I will have little to no deposit what should I be expecting to pay per month either on PCP or normal finance. I'd like to buy over 4 years but if it brought the payments down I could do 5.

I should also mention my local dealer is having a 'sale' event as they have been bought out by a new owners and they are selling off lots of stock. They say they will accept ANY reasonable offers for new and used cars. I do suspect this is just a marketing promotion though.

Anyway sorry about the long rambling post but what does anyone think I should be paying per month/in total??

£16.9k is the dearest with less than 3k miles ( I'm assuming it's the petrol )

I was after the Diesel 184 model, Autotrader suggests around £17-18,000. What kind of money has anyone else managed to knock off from dealers? I just want a rough idea what I need to be aiming for before I go to the dealer tomorrow.

£16-18K. For closer to £20K I'd be expect very little mileage and a decent spec list.

As for a deposit, if you have £200-500 equity in your current agreement then just use that. Anything more won't really make a difference to the monthly repayments.

Also shop around for finance/loans/etc, don't just take the deal offered by the dealer. Tell them your bank can do you something at 5% and see if they can match or beat it. Most will as they make more commission on the finance and GAP insurance than the car itself (allegedly)

Okay thanks for the info, I can get a loan for 3.6% APR so will go in armed with that. I was hoping to pay around £200 pm but realistically its probably looking more like £250pm

I'd also have a look at the price of a new one through a broker (Drive the Deal/CarWOW).
You could save £4000-£5000 off list and also get SEAT's 0% PCP deal over 3 Years.

Mine was a pre reg 184SC FR - only 1 month old with only 5 miles on the clock ( they were waiting till the old demonstrator sold before putting this one on the fleet )

Mine was 5 door 184 with titanium pack, alcantara seats, tech pack, convenience pack and SEAT sound pack at 10 months old with 5800 on the clock and I paid £18500

I'm going to do some more searching round on Autotrader, CarWow etc. An ex demo or pre registered sound like my best options. Hopefully with my local dealer having an 'invite only' event this weekend there might be a bargain to be had (I highly doubt they'd turn someone away who wanted to buy who didn't have an invite!)

I've ordered my new Cupra with this offer, was planning to but £7500 deposit down but dealer also gave me a finance quote with just a £500 deposit, Could be worth checking it out.

0% finance is only on new - either HP or PCP.

Used finance is much more expensive, better looking at a bank loan if you want to buy outright.

Should be looking at 12-15% discount on new - that's what Carwow and DTD are showing.

Agree with everyone else that the car seems a bit over priced based on the miles. I got a 11 month old cupra, 8k miles for 20.8K after trading my 184 in.

I'd be looking to pay around 17k for a nearly new.

Like twitch said, if you've got a good credit rating. Get a 4 year bank loan at about 3.8% and it would work out about £300 a month I would of thought

The Broker Orangewheels are worth a look too. They do p/x and you deal only with the dealer, i checked the 1.8 FR Petrol SC last week and it was around 17% off.

My commute is mostly poor quality A roads where I don't get much above 40mph with a small dual carriageway section albeit with a 40mph limit plus a bit of weekend driving.

I drove both and got myself the petrol. I felt it was a more fun engine.

For your mileage it seems as you'd be near the economical sense of going diesel over petrol. I haven't done the math recently but it's usually around 10 to 12k miles a year.

Will you have troubles with a dpf because of start stop use? I understand that you need to get the diesel up to working temperature regularly for it to have a happy life with no issues.

For me it was a no brainer. About 8,000 miles a year, lot of start stop, and a fun, revvy engine.

Unless you're planning on buying at the end of the deal you might be better off leasing? I got a brand new st fr act, 4 years, 14000 miles pa, 245 per month and deposit of 750.

Yeh thats PCP but you still don't own the car at the end, 50% on HP and the car is mine.

I think I'm going to go for a PCP deal, I've looked on Carwow, Orange Wheels and Drive the deal. Orange Wheels looks like the best deal for me. I can get approx £4000 off list price with a SC 184 FR with a couple of extras. This isn't far off the second hand one I was looking at.

I'll go to the dealer later this afternoon and see if they can beta/match this deal. Thanks for everyones help!

I have ususally found that dealer prices bear no resemblance to the various 'guide-prices' so negotiation is probably a must.
