Ok so as title says.....I have a track grey ibiza cupra and while the sun was out briefly the other day I noticed alot of swirls and minor inperfections all of which I no will polish out, but I'm after advice on minimising these effects and after some advice on polishes and waxes that will be good for this colour but as I don't earn alot I'm kinda on a budget and can't afford all the expensive products you guys no and love....I'm hoping to achieve this by hand has I don't trust myself with a machine polisher and also because doing it by hand let's me admire my hard work more

I would love to know what processes and techniques to use to achieve the best results or if any of you have got any pics to show me their results it would be greatly appreciated. I'm not a complete amatuer and know about the two bucket method and how important pre rinsing is, but following this my sponge has recently found a new home in the bin and a sheepskin wash mitt on order. I'm eager to learn so my car can be back up to its original standard

Many thanks

Read your thread, I was ideally looking for how to get the best results by hand for now so I can save up enough to maybe purchase a polisher....where did you get the da polisher from? And how would you rate the one you've got...is it safe on the paint as I've been reading loads of threads about burning the paint and how easy was it to use for a first timer like me, I'm not looking to get it looking like it's brand new just looking to to remove the swirls and make the paint look fresher...also you know any good products to use have you ever tried maguiars swirl x I've ordered some after good reviews to try it out when the weather picks up

Try these:

with some of this:

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/car-polish-compounds/gtechniq-p1-nano-composite-polish/prod_844.html

I've also had some good results with this Megs compound but it takes a bit of working by hand:

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/car-polish-compounds/meguiars-ultimate-compound/prod_554.html

Those Sonus pads are great, yellow side is has a little bit of bite so great for correcting by hand. Black side can be used for buffing or applying glazes or waxes.

All info and prices of the exact items I purchased are in the thread. I had never used one before and managed fine. The pics in my thread don't really do it any justice as it was such a dull day. Da polishers are designed for newbies as the way they work prevents burn through because when the pressure gets too much they start oscillating instead of rotating meaning the pressure is alot less. Plus you always start with the least abrasive pad and polish and work your way up to achieve the desired results. I haven't really ever used anything else to remove swirl marks cos to do the whole car would be so much effort. For minor scratches and issues I have used go compound by hand and that helped but again not ideal for the whole thing. You have to remember that it's the swiping motion and cloths that cause the swirls in the first place so could be alot of work for very little gain

I brought some maguiars swirl x the other day so when the weather picks up I will be trying this and seeing how I get in with it, otherwise I'm gunna take the advice and save for a da polisher like stated above.......do you guys no of any products I can use to protect the plastic in the arches? I'm gunna give the wheels a clean when I paint my brakes and gunna clean under the arches, but I wanna apply something to them to protect them and make it easier for the dirt to come off when cleaning in the future
