Hi,

What mods can I do to my Leon to improve performance for a cheap price? I want to stay away from a remap that requires getting my DPF removed and resulting in bellowes of smoke coming out the rear when I drive!

Any input is much appreciated!

Thanks

Not much really to do on an FR that will see any decent benefit. A stage 1 remap is the best thing you can do for performance upgrade.

The standard airbox/filter is better than any aftermarket alternative, this has been proven. Only other thing is a straight through exhaust but again you won't see much benefit with the dpf in place and on a standard map.

Do you have a PD170 or a CR170?

I have a PD170 thats remapped with the dpf still in place.

Mines a PD170, what gains did you get from your remap? I don't want to lose any reliability and I've heard of SEAT wiping maps and replacing them with originals when it comes to service time, is this true?

Also, where did you get your map and how much did it cost? I'm sure ive read that a lot of places totally mess up the cars fuelling rather than improve it on the PD engines?

I didn't have it on the rollers when it was mapped, but it's a major improvement and said to up the bhp to around 200-205. The place that did it is called Big Fish Tuning. They have a great reputation, the maps are all specific to the car not an off the shelf job.

The car doesn't smoke, and its the timing which is crucial to keep the smoke to a minimum. I've never heard of anyone having a map wiped when it's serviced. Also they shouldn't look at anything like that on a service.

My map was £250 but I had a £50 discount for being a member of a local forum.

As long as you go to a good place you will be fine.

What mileage is on the car and where are you based?

I got the remap with dpf removal they had the option of an ecomap full power map and an inbetween map. I went for the full power map which they said would be between 200-210bhp and go a definate improvement plus an extra 100 miles out of every tank of fuel and got 580 miles out of one tank on a fully loaded car to scotland. They are in hertfordshire and gave me a car to drive around in when they took mine, I couldnt fault them in anyway would love to see the economy of the most economical map!!

Does your car now spit out black smoke? If so I'll have to leave it, I can't deal with washing my car every time I drive it! Haha

I'll give them a call.

It's herts auto tek ltd it only gets dirty if you floor it after a good bit off around town driving as it pushes out all the soot that is normal blocking up your dpf but you can get maps without removing dpf im sure but yeah it is annoying having a black section of dirt around the exhaust on the rear end

I have just put my dpf back in as my car failed its mot even though my dpf was gutted and looked stock but the mot tester could see smoke coming out of the exhaust now after 6 months of driving with superchips map on with the dpf back I think the car drives much better and no smoke and no dpf lights overall with three different companies mapping the car with the dpf out because they could not get it right even sharks map was crap and over £1200 pounds later I wish I had not even bothered!

I think I'll look deeper into the stage 1 map. I haven't got it in me to remove the DPF haha.

I'm in Luton mate, I'll take your word for it though, if you are happy with the results of the map then I'm sure I'm not gonna be annoyed about it haha!

Stick to well known tuners with the PD170 or else it can be a right nightmare... been there and have got the t-shirt.

K-Tune are the best UK tuner for PD170.. and then only tune the PD170.
