So I just had the most crazy phonecall from my lease company.

The call goes as follows:

Them: Hi, do you still want your Leon Cupra ?
Me: Erm.. yes... ofcourse, why ?
Them: Oh right, it's just we've had it here a week or so but are still awaiting you to sign off your contract agreement
Me: Oh wow okay. Except I signed that back in September and received my signed copy back from the finance provider several months ago.
Them: Oh that's very odd, I've still got it down here as you not having signed it... leave it with me I'll chase it up

:rofl: Normally that would really annoy me, but I wasn't expecting the car till mid/end of January so should still receive it pretty soon if the lease company get their act together :D

To be fair to them other than that they have been really good. Always phoned back if I have any questions etc and generally kept me up to date on the whole process. I think it was just a bit of an admin slip up, i'm sure it happens at all companies from time to time...

They've gave me a delivery date of 30th December now. Awesome late Christmas present!

It's arrived !!!

Absolutely love it. Have been driving about most of the day in it. It's the first time i've used a DSG box, so i'm suitably impressed by it. It's very smooth and quick to respond. Havn't quite got used to pulling away out of a junction quickly yet while keeping it smooth, but i'm getting there.

Main surprise is just how comfortable it is. In comfort mode, the ride seems more supple and comfortable than my 62 plate Ibiza FR. And then ofcourse the engine... oh what an engine indeed. I put it in Cupra mode for about 10 seconds which pretty much scared the life out of me when I put my foot down, so i'll keep that off for the remainder of the run in period.

Unfortunately today the roads are atrocious. They're wet, icey, and drenched in salt and grime. To top it off the sun was out and quite low in the morning, so you had the combined effect of grime and salt building up on your windscreen within just a few minutes, and then a wet road surface reflecting the low sun into your eyes. It wasn't the best driving conditions :doh:

The kind guy that delivered it was nice enough to take it to a local hand car wash just before he arrived (he arrived at 8am, even though the dealer was over 2 hours away). Unfortunately either the hand car wash or the dealership have managed to cover the car in fine swirl marks, which is apparently pretty common. Can only really be seen in direct sun light from an angle. Anyway, i'll be getting the dual action polisher and some light cutting polish out at the weekend which will soon sort that out.

I'll stop rambling now. Here are some obligatory pics. These are after I cleaned it. You should have seen how horrificly dirty it was before hand, honestly you would have thought it hadn't been cleaned for 6 months.

Congrats! Isn't she pretty...I do like it in black. Part of me wishes I had waited the extra 10 weeks or so for a black one...needed it sooner, so mines a SC in "Dynamic Grey".

I hear you about the first few curious jabs on the loud pedal, scared the bejeezes out of me the 1st time I put my foot down. I can tell you that you get used to the power, but its still a thrill each and every time :D. I've just passed the 2000 mile point, so well out of engine run in time...but still, its very rare that my foot is on the floor. There is just no need in every-day driving (there is so much torque)...and I do kinda value my licence!

Regarding pulling away smoothly: I have also noticed that it takes a little finesse to pull away smoothly from a stop, otherwise it can start off with a bit of a jolt. Try just taping the accelerator gently for a brief moment, pushing it down only 5mm or so...this sort of "puts it in gear". Take your foot off for a split second then reapply (squeeze) gently...it should then pull away smoothly.

Enjoy learning about it, its the best part! I only recently mastered the cruise control interface...but its part of the fun of getting a new car, playing with all the toys!

It's not so much pulling away smoothly from a complete stop and in a straight line. It's more when you are pulling up to a T junction in a quiet village or something, so you don't come to a complete stop but instead edge round the corner at 2 or 3mph. Once you can see clearly you proceed to put your foot down further and pull off at reasonable pace. But for some reason the pedal seems much less sensitive than normal in this situation (unless i'm imagining it). Though thinking about it, it's quite possible it's just due to the fact it's in 1st gear and the revs are right down around 1100 or 1200 which is always going to feel a bit dead for a half second or so until the revs build a bit.

I'm sure i'll get the hang of it. It's also partly because it's very wet/cold and a brand new car so I am babying it quite a lot. In by Ibiza manual in the same situation, i'd just put my foot down quite a bit and lift the clutch up quickly to pull out of a junction fast.

The problem is now I really want to go out and drive it again. But it's been cleaned so it's nice and presentable when I take it to work tomorrow! Don't want to get it dirty again today...

My previous car was a DSG Golf GTI. In the 6.5 years I had it, I never fully mastered the smooth T-junction exit without coming to a complete halt :)

What care are you coming from ? I was coming from a manual Ibiza 1.6TDI. So one heck of a step up. First fast car i've ever driven.

It's such effortless performance it makes driving it a real pleasure. When going from a 40mph zone into a 60 zone it reaches the speed so effortlessly and quickly without even dropping a gear or revving the crap out of it.

My last car was an Alfa 156 GTA selespeed (paddleshift manual, but only single clutch). It was 250hp and same kerb weight, but it was mapped to over 280hp at one time (long story..), so I'm well used to the power. The gearbox was brilliant on the Alfa, and engine was 3.2 litre V6, not turbo. The Cupra will be very slightly quicker, but mainly because of the DSG I think....

The only place you can properly use these cars is on Track Days - I am certainly planning plenty of those! :happy:

BTW: Happy New Year to everyone on the Forum!

Hello

I'm a newbie to the site already posted hello in newbie section.

But thought I would share my happy news just had confirmed my delivery of a shiny new Cupra in the form of the 280 SC DSG in Red (winter pack). Cannot wait until March to get behind the wheel.

Loved it during the test drive handling and acceleration really impressed.

I will miss my Renault RS - diesel - I am looking forward to driving a petrol motor once again:D

This will be my first Seat.
