Can't you refuse that valuation and get them to up it a bit? That's what happened on every write off I've know about when friends and family have been in that situation.

Cheers Yes - I have done. Awaiting in writing a verbal offer of £1400 which I intend accepting. It was the 30 minutes of preambling and battling to get a decent offer which I found tiresome. But I guess those are the terms of engagement in the insurance industry. I'm glad I was prepared and stuck to my guns, but I guess that is part of the 'game'.

So with that, hopefully tomorrow I'll agree with them to buy back the car and try to get it fixed, hopefully before Christmas.

Written off received and accepted. Vehicle taken this afternoon by repairing garage. Will speak with Gvmt about VIC tomorrow. Read up on that
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-identity-check/overview

Insurance say I need a valid MOT alongside the VIC. I said I have a valid MOT. They say I need a new one. I said it was only a category C because of your high costs. We chatted about what would happen if a car, worth say £1k or below they insure, which has say been keyed or accident damage that made no difference to road worthyness but they made it a Cat C - would they expect a new MOT for those? Solely because their costs to showroom condition exceed a low worth? They said I need a new MOT before they will re-insure me. They also said I needed to take the car on a lorry/transporter. - The VIC website says otherwise, its the person who must be insured (which I am via my own policy as this car is in my ladies name) - VIC says

-the car must be roadworthy and able to be driven under its own power
-the car must have a valid MOT if it needs one (if you’re driving it to the VIC and it is over 3 years old)
-the person driving the car must be insured
-the car must have front and rear number plates (if you’re driving it to the test)

So I'll chat with the VIC folk and my repairer and see if we can get the beast on the road for Xmas. Apparently there can be quite a wait for these VIC tests.

Thanks for everyone's help and support so far. 1 less Leon is going to the scrapyard because of it. Any experiences or help on the above, as always, gratefully received.

Heard back from the VIC folk - this Thursday. I've been ill the last day so not spoken to the garage repairing today but understand it should be fixed. So fingers and all sorts of stuff crossed..

Check that.... Once a policy pays out, the policy is void - so the car needs to be insured, by someone else if you intend to drive it on a 'driving other cars' policy

I'd be surprised if anything substantial was damaged, it looks to me like the wing has taken the brunt of the impact. Did you notice if the car drove any different after the incident? Pulling from side to side maybe or any vibrations through the steering wheel? If no then I'd assume its certainly nothing serious or that couldn't be cheaply and easily fixed! eBay for a black leon braking like most people have said would be my way forward, I do have one braking at the moment but no panels or bumpers are any good. Either way good luck

Thanks Mark - to avoid any potential issues then I think I'll ask the garage to take it there (its only 2 miles away) though I have to be there at the time of inspection.

Insurance now say all they need is a valid MOT which I have
