I have a leaking rocker cover gasket that needs replacing.
The genuine part for a diesel Mk1 TDI 150 is over £100 so I'm thinking about using a patent part from either Darkside or Eurocarparts as they are both under £15. Has anyone used the gasket from either of these suppliers and if so how hard is it to do, I couldn't find a guide anywhere.

Some gakests on the TDIs are bonded to the cover and can't be changed seperatley. If that's the case Eurocarparts sell a good flexible sealant that I've seen used with varying levels of sucess over the years.

I don't know if mine is bonded, maybe that is why it has £100 price tag. I did speak to my local VW specialist a couple of weeks back and he said they have tried sealant on these rocket cover gaskets in the past and they never hold. Replacement was the only thing that worked.

You don't want a regular sealant, there are some that have gap filling capabilities. Some peugeot HDIs and Vauxhall use this in place of a sump gasket. If you were to ask for a gasket for say a 2006 Peugeot 307 1.6 HDI sump gasket you'd get a tube of this, think it's corteco brand from Eurocarparts?? Good stuff
