Clutch options tdi

Hi,

I have just got a hybrid turbo which ill be fitting at the weekend and shortly after I will be mapping it.

However my clutch is shot so I need a new one and don't really want to spend more than £400~ plus fitting.

I was just going to go with the standard clutch and hope its ok but I feel like this might be a bad decision as it might go in a few months and ill kick myself. (not sure what kind of power standard brand new will hold up to)

So I have been looking at other options and could use some advice.

options:

Carbon kevlar clutch and flywheel from ebay rated to 520nm - £395 -here

Darkside OEM replacement - £390 (after Vat and delivery) - here

Single mass flywheel and clutch kit ebay - £249 (very good price) - here

or any other options anybody can suggest?

I really dont know what to do, I could wing it and go with the £249 kit but then if it goes fitting is £200+ so that wouldnt be too enjoyable!

The first eBay is rated pretty poorly on their feedback. They're also Techni-clutch (Techni-crap)

Second option you'll be able to buy for your local ECP or GSF at a lower price, it's the fitting that stings you!

Third, I believe that's the kit that Dan2707 has fitted. I wonder how he's getting in with it?

I'm personally saving for a SRE kit which I've managed to source for £550 excluding flywheel as I'm torn between DMF or SMF.

Be wary of SMF chatter if fitted. Even the 'silent' kits have a small amount of it. TBH if you're only going hybrid, I would stick with DMF unless you're planning full throttle launch starts.

An OEM kit would hold well if driven sensibly, avoiding WOT in 5th/6th at low RPM etc...

That kit at £249 looks incredibly cheap, I find myself asking what the catch is? Be very interested to hear some real world feedback!

Yes the £249 kit is the one Dan2707 has and he said it's good and he's not having any problems, however I don't think he's had it on that long so I'm bit wary since it's eBay.

I have a CG STAGE 2 kevlar clutch on my pd130. They claim its good for 30% more than the oem clutch (the standard one is good for 280lb/s)?? so 360lbs? - probably not). I haven't had any problems with mine in 6 months. It did take 2500 miles to bed in! haha

They do a stage 3 witch claims is good for 40% :S they seem to popular with the 2.2 diesel civics

Anyway 6 months on and no problems mods are stage 1 full miltek decat, pd160 intake, pipercoss filter, just added FMIC and map will be tweaked on the 6th of feb with RR

Was remapped RR'd @ 175hp, since then added miltek decat system, and fmic, definently more powerful but anyone know how much power I have or the map tweak will give me taking advantage of the intercooler

True! send them a message on how much the SMF is alone, maybe the oem is ok but not for long term!

I'm not overly interested in a SMF, but I'm very intrigued as to the quality of the kit at £249 (with SMF) as that's much cheaper than anything I've seen previously!

Clutch will be oem so pretty much gonna be the same as what you got (but brand new) I have seen Dan2707's thread and is more than satisfied with it, what sort of power are you going to be running?

yes i agree 249 is a very good price i spent nearly double on mine!

Idle chatter is non existent but driving at low speeds with llow revs results in a sound like someone's
throwing a spanner in a washing machine.

I've done around 10 thousand miles with it so far though. So all is well.

Seems to be holding the hybrid power so far too with absolutely no signs of slipping. That can soon change though I suppose.

The spanner is of around the 13mm variety, maybe two of them not sure.

It's on a D wash, extra rinse, extra hold.

I would disagree, but I'm beginning to see your side of things. I've spent the majority of the day with a machine polisher in my hands, and tbf they're still vibrating now!
