No details (not surprisingly) but the official Seat site mentions the Cupra R on this page:
. seat. co. uk/ content /uk /brand /en /models /seat-range / seat-range html

Click on Sport button and text mentions:
"the race-inspired Leon CUPRA R" ;)

I would imagine that by the point the R turns up the price of the Cupra 280 will have either dropped slightly or more kit will become standard to keep sales going.

I can't see the R getting more than 300bhp personally, but to justify a significant premium for 20 extra horses it'd need to be 4WD.

How about a Mk3 Cupra with the "R Pack" adding the S3/Golf R engine and 4WD system? :p

I wonder if SEAT would ditch the Cupra in favour of the R similar to what happened with the Mk2, or whether they would leave the Cupra 265 as an option behind an AWD Cupra R of 300PS+

It will be very interesting to see what happens with this. The reason is that the Cupra 280 is £28k. An S3 and Golf 7 R is £29k in basic form with 20bhp more and all wheel drive.

It is:

a) Unlikely a basic spec S3 or Golf R is going to cost less than a Leon Cupra R with the same engine and running gear despite having less equipment

b) That a Cupra R is only going to cost £1k more than the Cupra 280

Perhaps a Focus RS spec 320bhp front drive monster is more likely?

If an R comes i think it will be strickly a limited edition run

will have circa 320 bhp but it wont be 4wd
the only other thing it might have is a resemblance to the cupra cup cars in colours and styling (but obviously not a direct copy)

There are a lot of mags saying its coming this year with 4wd and 300 bhp
but i cant see seat being allowed to get into the 4wd sales battle with the S3 or Golf R , i think thats why the ST was sanctioned to have 4WD.

Could be talking utter bollocks but from a production point of few the investment out weighs the potential sales so cant see 4wd happening.

Anything over £30k would be a mistake, on manufacture neutral car sites/forums, people have been turning their nose up at potentially paying over £26k for a SEAT despite the specs and the high level of options as standard.

Each to there own I suppose. Some say the same about the lairy bodykit on the K1s. Take the decals off and I think it looks great. Its basically Vauxhalls take on the megane r26r.

It just shows that seat have the chance to do the same with the Leon as they already have the racer.

Agree that VXR looks horrific. And pricing hasn't been announced but I suspect it will be easily north of £30k

The vxr is already pretty much maxed out on turbo boost as standard , it's not responding that well to remapping with only minimal gains , so doubt whether it will offer much in the way of power upgrades unless it's engine has been revised.
