Fair point, i may invest in an FR 1.8 or just suck it up and get the cupra 280 at the end of this year
You know there are other brands out there ?
By the time you are ready to buy your next car a used S3 or Golf R will be in budget

true but the audi and golf just don't do anything for me. THAT SAID....... DTD have the CUPRA 280 listed, specced one up and got 3.5K off!!!!

Thought you had the budget for the Merc and wanted it quite badly? Surely the S3 and Golf R are a compromise between the Leon Cupra and the Merc A45 with regard to price, ability (4x4) and being closer on the power stakes?
Why would I need to ask my bike insurer
You transfer your NCD from the bike to the car and so don't lose it?
Can't do that. Bike insurance and car insurance are two completely different things so not transferable. Bike I only have 1 year NCB and car I have 3 years NCB. Once you have no car insurance the NCD is only valid for 2 years from date of cancellation and then it expires.
My two-penneth.
- SEAT have a delivered a technically excellent car here.
- They have included a hell of a lot of kit as standard - as they did with the MK2 - much more than the competitors do - start ticking the options for basics on the golf etc and watch the price shoot up
- They are likely to have produced the fastest front wheel drive car round the ring (for the track enthusiasts)
- There is a choice on power for people that want it (although are unlikely to)
- Choice of three or five door (with ST expected at a later stage)
- Full LED lighting
- It builds on the already great looking style of the Leon (as M0rk says, the poverty spec already looks good)
- It is tasteful and not too in your face (SEAT have confirmed they want to drop their boy racer image and sell more cars like SKODA) - Yes if I was still 20ish I'd probably want more bling, but I wouldn't be their target market for a +25K car.
- We need to stop worrying about the R at this stage. As Z says the Cupra has only just been shown - the R will be a while away yet. SEAT have already been testing a monster version of this car - the press have wind of it and now everyone is set on that thinking the Cupra isn't good enough and the R is coming this year.
- I agree the colour choice at launch is uninspiring and I don't see why SEAT didn't push out a yellow or even blue, but they may come in time.
So we have a 280HP car, with trick mechanics, high quality interior, stylish but not too in your face good looks, 19" wheels, big red brakes, DSG option, lots of kit as standard including Sat Nav and a great audio system, competitively priced with some good discounts already showing through the brokers. Oh and surprising economy and tax brackets.
Yes I'm a brand nut and you could accuse me of thinking SEAT can do no wrong, but looking at the facts, this is a lot of car for the money and I'm happy to be spending my hard earned cash on one. It's the car I've been waiting for them to produce for a long time. If we all bought the same things life would be boring though.

The cars looks are the problem for most tho.
There is a 3 door Leon Al, every example above is a 3 door, except the Leon.
Leon and Golf appeal to me the most, the others are far to Ripspeed for my tastes. VXR looks dated already.
