Im thinking of doing the same - possibly putting in an aftermarket double DIN unit.

Not to fussed about it integrating with the steering wheel controls - but would be nice if it did.
Have got the standard bluetooth car kit so don't need it to have additional Bluetooth functionality.

Just not sure what is best, the RNS510 looks great, but are they still not a bit expensive?

I'm looking to upgrade my radio, I currently have the standard black MP3 one.

I think I'll need a fascia and the rest should be fine, can anyone confirm?

I went into the stealers asking how much the fascia adapters were and they were clueless, and told me they can only search by a chassis number.

Anyone know if this would be a straight plug and play?

I eventually will upgrade to a RNS510, but at the minute just want to stick an RCD310 in.

I've got an RNS 310 this week, very very pleased with it. The selling point of these over the aftermarket stereos is they fully integrate with the car and are built to a higher standard.

In terms of parts required at a minimum you'll need a fascia, if your dealer can't help ask SERE Motors on here. If your car is pre-07 then you'll need a new CAN gateway to work with the newer VW units, otherwise battery drain will occur. All pre-facelift cars will also need a minor adaptation to the Quadlock to get a permanent 12v on Pin 16. If you want to retain the centre console AUX input this will entail further minor changes to the wiring. Finally you need a GPS Antenna for Nav, and you might want an antenna adaptor if the unit your fitting has a twin connector for improved radio reception but this isn't essential.

Dave @sere sells the facias for around £20. Don't know how the people on eBay think their worth £50!

There are a few threads about these, I chose the Chinese route and bought a copy of the RNS510, it has loads of features, SD card, iPod, radio, sat nav, DVD, avi movies etc
It integrates with my steering wheel controls and so far the quality had been very good (Samsung parts inside)
Mines probably 2 years old and I paid less than £200 for it, all I've needed to do was buy a new GPS unit as the cable split.

Best of all it looks OEM :D

Cheers for that.

Mine is the facelift, so I take it I just need the fascia and GPS antenna if I choose one with a sat-nav.
