Rattles gone - official !

I am delighted to announce that I finally sorted mine by the most draconian operation, of removing the airvents and radio from the dash for the fourth time and stuffing foam all around the air vent ducts, so they physically were not able to move anymore !

I had already done multiple under-bonnet fixes, self adhesive velcro everywhere...I even removed the spare wheel and removed the under - dash area again using tape, foam and velcro in copious amounts !

Not for the faint hearted though !

Whilst my car makes about as much noise inside as a new Bentley now, you really shouldn't have to rebuild a new car like this...it took me 4 months constant attention to sort out !

Try harder SEAT ! [:@]

Now it's sorted though...I really love my car...there is nothing quite like "The sounds of Silence" :D

 I had none (except for the childs toy lodged under rear seats [:@]) until about a year ago, handbrake rattled, stuffed it eith self adhesive foam so it stuck in there and didnt trap anything, few more found and solved others not since then.

I have the worst rattle in the panel next the the rear passenger seats. So annoying. But whenever I take it to dealer to sort it I take them for a drive and it just stops! just trying to live with it until the summer when i'll sell the car. Sadly the answer does seem to be to turn the stereo up!
Good luck sorting them..

the creak fix

hi guys, had my car just over a year now and all's been fine...... until about 3 months ago. Now I do a few miles, car's on 31,000 in a year but the creaks from the B pillar and dash area only started over the winter:cry:. My theory is that a the roads have got worse the cars been flexing over the bumps causing the creaks from the dash and B pillar area.

I took to the dealer, car was quiet the first time I went, due to the rain I thought lubricating the seals. So next time it was creaking I drove round and had them take a look. After 10 mins of driving around the technician decided it was a poor positioned drivers door catch, probably due to poor torqued bolts from the factory. I asked him to look at the passenger door catch too as that had the odd noise.

Good news was the dash creaks and rattles stopped:)...for the most part, the radio area still makes a slight vibration noise. So good news for a couple of days, then the creaking is back, not as bad, not on the dash anymore and in a slightly different position. So I took a chance and whipped the tools out and tightened up the rear door catches.

Result:funk:, over week now and not a single rattle or creak, seems that the catches were moving slightly when the body flexed causing the creak noise and also twisting the dash as the car flexed.

Having tightened the rear catches myself I can tell you they were barely over finger tight :-o, so if you get the chance I would advise you check this.

Thanks mate,

I'll have a look at those because I have the exact same creaks that you describe.

So, still can't find the source of my rattles.

Is it going to be £rape if I go to a dealer? Will an independent be able to find these because it's starting to really piss me off.

Where are the rattles you're experiencing?

There's a couple from this thread, one which I don't think is fixable.

There's only really one bothering me, and it's the drivers door. It sounds like it's creaking, but creaking all the way around. Near the catch for the lock, near the top line of the door, and then down near the front of the door, near the hinge.

There's another rattle which sounds like it's coming from around the front right wheel. I had this looked at when I first got the car and the dealers said it was a loose screw near the wheel, but I can't seem to find it.

I take it you will have tried the obvious and got a torx and tightened all the screws? Also the speaker grill may be vibrating, I know mine was. Tightening the torx screws fixed a rattle on my door

I know the speaker grill on the rear is vibrating. I haven't got the correct bit to tighten the door catches, it doesn't seem to be a torx bit, looks like a star bit. I'll have to see if I can get hold of one to check the tightness, but they look/feel pretty tight.

I'll have a look at the torx bit on the speaker grill.
