Collection from Badger5
Well got the train up to B5 today to go and collect the car... 4 hours later
I was there!
Car went up there to have some mapping tweaks done, when Bill started work on it he thought he could get more from the car, and decided to start from scratch again, shows his attention to detail could have left the old map on there and farted about with tweaking it, but no did the whole lot from scratch to make it... well... just better!
After a few misshaps with the wastegate bolts coming loose and producing a 'wheeeey' moment on the dyno Bill managed to control the beast as best as possible. There is a
problem with the manifold from TSR due to a 31mm wastegate feed pipe feeding a 38mm wastegate. In short this means that above 5000rpm the wastegate can't vent enough gas around the turbine to keep boost under control. A mappers nightmate.
Arrived with Bill around 3PM in the afternoon when it was just being finished, took it for a quick drive to test the gear based boost and 3rd gear onwards is SAVAGE!
Paul (Tuffty) had been checking the car over before I arrived and had pointed out that one of the brake hoses was dangerously close to the wheel, almost rubbing. So we got it up in the air and rectified that, then did the other side for good measure.
On the drive home the car is seriously quick, beyond what I remember driving it before. Every gear is breath taking... It takes no time at all to get to stupid speeds!
Next on my list of "to do's" are to get the wastegate creep issue sorted, and to put the 3658 cams in. This will take the car to the 'next level'..... (not sure how many levels more there are)
Overall, well impressed with the setup and a big thanks & shoutout go to Bill & Paul @ Badger5 in my eyes the best VAG tuners there are... Quality, service and down to earth guys.
Cheers Chaps!
