Leon Speaker Upgrade options

Yeah to be honest I'm struggling to find anywhere where I can actually listen to anything rather than it just being in glass cabinets!
Just go to halfords, they will have a range of stuff for you to listen too. I'd recommend staying a with well known makes unless you find some you really like, that you have heard.

Neither of my local ones let you listen to them, and one of them only had 3 choices from "budget" (£35) all the way up to "specialist" (£45)
Had aa quick listen in local car shop and couldnt really settle on a choice of speaker upgrade.
Still not sure on comp or coax. Has anyone got positive feedback on maintaining the stock tweeters and with what speakers?

Well I've spoken to a few guys who know what they're talking about at car audio places and basically, co-ax are not as good but an easier option. Components will give you a better sound stage as the sound is seperated, but if you stick with the original tweeters and new mid/bass (it's easier) but you end up with having mis-matched speakers that aren't designed to go together.
I bit the bullet and have gone for my old 6x9 infinitys in a stealth shelf and a local guy is fitting some Phoenix Gold components up front. fingers crossed it sounds decent.

Im coming to the conclusion that im just going to bite the bullet and get some mid range components all around and maybe get a sub at a later date to cover all frequencies. Has anyone bought some components with the crossovers and tweetes and just wired the standard tweeters into the aftermarket crossovers?? or is this even possible??

dont use the original tweeter cause they are tosh , if you going for components , try some focals and put the tweeters up front & its a lot less agro than taking the inner door panel off too

I like the locations of those tweeters. Did you take the wiring directly from the head unit or the door to get up there?

Anyone got an opinion on FLI audio speakers? Looking at a set of 6.5", 210w 3-way's to replace the door speakers, along with a punchy 8" active sub in the boot.
I'm not looking for anything to take the wheels off the ground, just a little better quality and more punch.
Also, i've seen some people with silver speaker trim on the door. Does anyone know where I could get this?

Seen the speaker trim here, sure you could get it cheaper elsewhere.

Ah cool, didn't realise it was part of a whole door trim deal. I'll have to have a look around, as it does look smart.
Just spray it yourself like I did. Some primer and silver spray paints!
Cost me a tenner all in... Plus that kit from SEAT is only vinyl wrap I believe.

That looks great mate, ive had a word with my local audio shop and they was telling me the standards will be rubbish when using them with the crossovers etc. Im currently looking at a speaker and amp package for all the components. Hopefully get something sorted and fit the tweeters like you have
Any chance you could give me a little write up on how you did it, taking the pillar trims off etc...Cheers

guys have a lookie at my messing about build thread it is an altea but there is very little difference
what i did to leave in it a situation that it can go back to stock should i wish to
was cut the tweeter wire on the connector supplied with the speaker rings & heat shrink it up ,
the crossovers are each side under the dash , take out the A pillar cut the hole feed the wire down
then connect the tweeter to the cross over each side
the mid out from the cross over goes upto the connects 2 adaptor loom behind the headunit & then uses the stock wires to the mids in the doors

Just a quick update... I've had the work done now so got my inifinity 6x9's in the stealth shelf and some nice phoenix gold components up front with the front doors dynamatted.
Difference is huge, they're still bedding in for the next 6 hours or so but sound is getting better all the time. Definitely need to bin the original tweeters.
