Grinding/scraping noise from rear passenger side wheel

Hi guys,

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a grinding/scraping sound coming from the rear passenger side wheel when I came to the last second or two of a stop. It only happens when I brake.

I took it to the garage expecting it to be the shoes (60k miles and haven't been replaced yet) and they found the wheel cylinders were leaking but the rear brakes were still in decent condition. They flushed the brake fluid and replaced them, as well as a tyre on the front that was starting to crack, but the noise hasn't gone and sounds worse.

I'm hoping it's a stone, but after a couple of weeks of driving I would have thought it'd have fallen out naturally, or when the wheels were taken off. If it's not that, what might it be?

I'm trying to get an idea first as I'm not the most confident when it comes to dealing with garages and knowing I'm getting a good deal.

My guess is they haven't ground/ rubbed the lip off the drum or contaminated shoes off the fluid. Incorrect adjustment of shoes.

Is that normal practice when wheel cylinders have been changed? The car was making this noise before I took it in too.

If the drum has a lip on the inside yes. If the shoes where badly contaminated should be replaced. Shoes and drum should have been rubbed down with say p80 paper or suitable. It's worth getting your wheel bearing checked out also while in the process mate.
