Can someone recommend a replacement speaker, sub £100 that will be a direct replacement and allow me to continue to use the OEM tweeter, so I'm guessing a bass mid unit. I'm after the simplest way to stop the speaker honking on spoken female voices.

Oh, and I'm not averse to spending far less than the £100 BTW nd only looking to replace the fronts at the moment.

Thanks in advance

I have these and I know a few others do too.

You could always reserve them at the store (for 15% off) then go and listen to them as they're probably on display. If you don't like them, don't buy them, if you do, they'll only be £31.45 for a set.

You will need SAK-3103 adapters too.

I know it s a pain mate, as you dont want to mess things up.

all i have done is replace my 165mm mid bass drivers with 2-way's all round & I have kept my stock tweeters - i disabled the tweeters by cutting one of the wires in the adaptor wires

I did put some dynamat in there too to reduce vibrations.

You don't really need to do much more than that really, unless you're plannin a super dogs doodah's system

Yeah I was unsure whether to change the tweeters or not, just know I wanna swap out the speakers front and back. It's hard to know which ones to go for really as there's so many and you rarely get a chance to properly listen to them first!

Cool - and you just got a small amount of acoustic matting under the base of the speaker in the door?

I dynamatted the base of the SAK-3103 adaptor ring, so there is some deadening material between the door card & the adaptoor as you screw it to the door card

Also dynamatted the door card recess where the speaker sits to cut down on vibration.

you dont need a lot

I know this has been asked before - but has anybody managed to work out (even approx) the stats of the existing speakers and replace the main speaker with the low end of a component, leaving the existing tweeter in place and hooked up?

I'd like to upgrade; but I really don't want to remove the doorcard OR loose the tweeter to be honest.

And the existing speakers are pretty good anyway (just not amazing) so not sure how much advantage spending anything less then £100 would give?

Well I can tell you that the standard speakers in a 7 year old Leon are a LOT worse than those in a base level Skoda Fabia - So leads me to believe that chucking a £70 pair of speakers in should make a decent difference

The standard speakers sound good, yes. In my 2010 Leon they were pretty good, until I changed them.

As soon as I got my Vibe slick 6's I wondered why I didn't do it sooner. They are so much better, it's easy to tell. My speakers were £80 I think, for 4. They're only £63 for 4 now, at that price you'd be stupid not to really.

You don't remove the door card, just the speaker grill. And if you don't want to lose the tweeter, then don't snip the wire on it!

I've got a 6 month old Leon (ex demo) and the speakers are a LOT better than a base level 2007 Honda Civic, albiet not quite as good as the £120 replacements for the Honda Civic (but it's nice not to have the door card rattling above 75% volume)

The Vibe Slick 6 come in Coax (tweeter built in) and Component (seperate tweeter) what I'd like to do is to get some similarish cross over speakers, can then leave the existing tweeters in and leave the new ones out.

If I put in Coax and didn't snip the tweeter wire would end up with double the tweet!

Yeah that's what I want too... like the idea of the nice and cheap Vibe ones but seems a waste to put them in and lose the standard tweeter - just need mid/bass components

I thought the same, but when the I put the VIBEs in they were such a good all round speaker that I didn't need the factory tweeter. So all I did was snip the wire number 2 on the SAK-3103 adapters. This leaves the factory wiring in tact.

interesting... might sound stupid but did you try the sound with the original tweeters also attached?

Yeah I did, there was far too much high end, it hurt my ears. But then I'm only a teenager so I have more sensitive ears... And tinnitus so any 'extra' high pitched noises added to what I already hear pisses me off big time!

Haha, get some new speakers and then try it. You might like more high, but I couldn't seem to lower it even through my stereos settings, so just snipped the wire.

I was happy for around 2 months and then decided I needed a subwoofer for an extra boost :) But now its all sorted. Might add some sound proofing though as theres a fair amount of rattles.

Yeah I get a few rattles now! I know they need to be 165cm speakers but how deep can they be?
