I'm there this friday and would love launch and flat shift but have a feeling bits of my engine would be spread over the road if i went for it
Did you decide on the 4wd too?

Not fancy DIYing?
Paying someone to do this will definately run into thousands, an american company which does this to golfs quote 80 hours
80 hours at £50+ per hour labour plus parts

I did the donor and you do get the majority of parts but you will need to replace quite a few bits that are just giving up due to age like
All 4 rear tie arms, wheels bearings, brake lines, fuel tank straps, all rear bushes, etc

I'm just not confident enough to go cutting the shite out of the arse end of my car. It would be done on axle stands and don't have any welding experience. I don't mind taking engines out etc just can't weld.

Not a problem replacing the parts, to be honest even our cars are starting to show their age now. need to take my subframe off at some point and get it sent off for powdercoating due to surface rust.

If you get a MIG welder you can learn it in 1/2 a day
You want the sound of bacon cooking when welding, the most difficult part is getting the settings right (use some scrap to get adequate pentration, etc)
I understand its not for everyone but i think if contracted out it costs so much you may as well buy another proper 4wd car
