Lol, finally upgrading! Can't go wrong with a Pioneer tbh mate. You'll need the fascia adapter as the aftermarket units are smaller than those beastie standard one's, lol.

I'm after a Pioneer myself but not that one.

Ha yer mate, only had the car 3 years! lol.

The DEH-4400BT seems a half decent unit for the £ so thought i'd give it a go. Would love a double din unit but would rather spend the cash on cams and tuning bits :D

Gents,

What is everyone's perception of modified car insurance? I will need to be buying car insurance in the not to distant future and have always gone with the usual names & companies for modified insurance, my gripe at the moment is that in the event of a total loss I would never recoup the money that I have spent on the car.

A lot of the bigger modified car insurance companies offer and agreed value car insurance policy, this is a free of charge service (apparently) and they take into account what you have spent on the car & what the market value of a standard car would be.

Now I would never get back the same amount of money in the event of a total loss as I have spent on the car but they offer a agreed value on what the car would have sold in A* condition to a like minded person with all the modifications and the same interest in the car as I have. I guess they are insuring what the car *could* be sold for rather than the market value of a run of the mill one.

It's a tricky subject and wanted to get opinions from people who have got heavily modified cars...

You raise a valid point James. I think many are at the point where they run the risk of losing a large amount if their car was to be written off (me included). I've been with my insurance company for years, mods all declared but I haven't been smart with shopping around. I'm about to pay out at least 3K on a respray, on top of the £££s spent over the last 8 years of ownership. This wouldn't be reflected in the settlement figure if the worst was to happen. An agreed valve with reasonable premiums makes perfect sense. I've stuck with the convenience of insurance renewal, but in September, I'll be looking at specialist insurance companies. The classic car chaps use this type all the time. Premiums might be slightly higher, with a slightly higher excess, but it makes perfect sense. Especially in your case.

I will be doing my best to go down the agreed value route, going to try and get it insured for near £15K, I would LIKE to think I would make that money if I sold the car but in reality the car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, i've paid a lot more for the car and the mods that are on it but these cars aren't getting any younger.

You would make 15k breaking it but I doubt as a whole car. Tricky one though mate.

Let us know how you get on.

James my mate with the crazy tuned cars uses these guys from my memory (I will double check with him) competition-car-insurance.co.uk

They work slightly different from my understanding. It's the only place he could really go for with his R33 skyline especially (imagine ringing the usual companies and giving them a list as long as your arm for a 1000bhp skyline :ban:)

I will try get more info about them for you. Might be worth giving them a call though

Adrian flux used to do agreed insurance based on the receipts you had for your mods. That was many moons ago may even be late 90's when I had one of those policy's. Worth a try though.
