Ice on inside of windscreen?

Anyone else getting ice on the inside of their windscreen on these cold, icy mornings?

I don't recall ever having this before on other cars, and my girlfriends Focus parked next to mine doesn't suffer.

Its only a very thin layer on a small area above the steering wheel, but very irritating as these things take ages to warm up anyway!

Hi, yes my car suffers this problem and the Audi before it, but I think it's because it mainly gets used for short journeys and lives outside on a North facing drive. Maybe the Focus has a quick clear screen which I believe are very effective....Julian

Thanks for the reply Julian. I wouldn't say that I'm happy about it, but its good to know I'm not the only one experiencing this issue.
The Focus does have a quick clear screen, but this is before we've started the engine

Are you sure its not damp inside your car? I had this in mine a couple of times when my door seals were blocked (on a Leon). My girlfriend has a soft top and she had this until we put some silica gel in the car.

My initial thoughts were damp, but the footwells are dry.

Its got no sunroof, so other than some sort of front bulkhead drain, I'm not sure what other drains there would be?

Hi, there are other posts on here with people reporting water ingress similar to the well documented Audi problems, it is possible to have dry feeling carpets but the thick underfelt be wet. I have a cheap dehumidifier pack in mine and it removes quite a bit of water, but I do feel it is my usage of the car that causes problems....Julian

I've looked into the Audi A4 water ingress issues and they look bit ogf a nightmare, but can be avoided with regular gromet cleaning. I don't think its that, but will have a poke around when I actually have some daylight.

Interestingly with the car parked at my house rather than my girlfriends last night, I had no ice on the inside, and not misted up:blink:

Had the problem on my old golf 4motion, was informed after selling it that many vag cars have this problem and it has something to do with leaves and debris blocking a (pollen???) filter. I'm sure there was a thread not too long ago which reported the same and suggested parking facing downhill rather than up. Best have a look for the thread as I may have gotten some or all of these facts mixed up.

I cant post a link to the thread that i mentioned due to not having made enough posts. The one youre looking for is entitled, 'Water leak in front passenger footwell' and was last active on 24th October

Thanks for the info mate, but I'm pretty sure I don't have the blocked drain grommet issue that most of these threads refer to. I checked below the battery after the heavy rain and it looked bone dry.

I'll have another poke around next time we get cold weather.

Change your pollen filter, less than a tenner and takes 2 mins.

Have you had it long? If you only have it a while possibly the seats were washed or a window left down on the forecourt in the rain causing the car to be excessively damp. Cheap salt box would dry it up or change the pollen filter definitely helps.

Had it a good few months mate so can't be the damp from rain coming in. For a tenner I'll probably change the pollen filter soon.
I need to do an A, B test when the temp drops again. Haven't had an iced up screen for a while now which is nice

Still getting ice on the inside of the screen now the temperatures have dropped significantly.

Just had the car serviced which included a new pollen filter (I checked after to ensure it was changed)

I never really use the air con during winter, well only now and then to stop the seals drying out.

Battery tray always looks bone dry and looking at the height of the pollen filter housing, it would have to be brimming with water to over spill there! So I'm really at a loss with this

Guy at work here has a brand new Seat Leon hire car at the moment, and he said this morning his windscreen had iced up on the inside !

Seems quite a common problem.

try shutting all of the air vents b4 u turn off at night and switching the blower from window screen to the floor see if that helps

Sounds like it could be wortth a try. I typically don't have the blower on the screen at the end of the journey as it dries out all the dirty spray. I'll try closing the air vents and see what happens tonight.

I wonder what happens if you select 'off' on the climate? Might have a listen and see if the duct flaps are closing.

forgot mention put it on recirculation so it doesn't draw the cold air in from outside :)
