Window Dropped into Door - Help

Hi Everyone,

This morning I was sat stationery in some traffic and my window suddenly dropped into the door, at first it was at a diagonal angle and then I pulled over and tried to straighten it up but it just dropped straight down into the door.

I drove to the Seat Dealer and without looking at it, the guy behind the desk claimed it was the Regulator and quoted me the following: Part £102.60 inc VAT (6J3837462) and Labour £135 inc VAT (1.5 hours).

I've not had chance to look as I'm at work but I don't want to take it to the dealer to get it sorted as I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them so I am going to have a look myself tonight to see if it's just come off the runners or if anything has broken.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of this before and how they fixed it / how much it cost? Also, if anyone knows where I can get that part cheaper anywhere else then any advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Hi not necc the regulator, poss just clips that hold windows in place. I had this happen on my mk4 golf, they used to have plastic clips rather than metal. Take the door card off and check if it's the clips. If so just replace them. Sere motors on the forum could prob get the clips for you

surely this is an issue that should be covered under warranty? If my car window just dropped down into the door through no fault of my own, I would insist that it be sorted under warranty!

With the current weather the stealers try to blame the driver saying that the window was frozen up when you tried to open it.

They seem to have common excuses for non warranty at various times of the year.

My warranty ran out last week... Bloody typical.

Thanks for the advice though I'm going to have a go at taking the door card off tonight, does anyone know if there's a guide of how to do it?

Listen, if your warranty only ran out last week, I would argue the case. If you don't get any joy from the dealer, contact Seat Uk directly and explain the situation. You might be surprised how accommodating they can actually be ... especially if you tell them the car has always been properly service by Seat and that you were / are really considering buying a new Seat.

My mate got a fly-wheel replaced in his Leon as a good jesture - the car was out of warranty for nearly a year, but only had 28000miles on it ... i.e. the fly wheel shouldn't have failed at such low mileage.

Talk to your dealer ... or indeed, another dealer in the area first before you put your hand in your pocket.

^ what he said, a relay went on mine a week after the warranty went, spoke to the dealer who approached SeatUK on my behalf and got them to cover the work as goodwill.
Play nicely and you may be suprised how far they'll bend for you, as my aunty used to say, if you don't ask, you don't get!

Hi, I used the guide below for the golf, to replace the rubbish plastic regulator clips. If this is your issue rather than the reg itself, it a cheap repair. It is however a complete utter pain in the ar$£. looking a the guide Techie did ( brilliant guide chap ) - it looks as much of a pain as well! If youre not bad when it comes to doing bits and bobs, you should be ok.. if not - i'd pay to get it done or as above - tug on the dealers heart strings and hope they play...

http://vwgolfr32.co.uk/windowregulator/ - obviously follow Techies guide to get the card off and then the last bit of the dub guide to replace the broken clips

Thanks everyone, going to give the Service Manager a call tomorrow as I think he owes me a favour after giving me my car back after a service with one of the worst misfires I've ever experienced!

why go through all the hassle of complaining/warranty etc.... just take the door card off and put it back in the runners your self.

Appreciate what you're saying but I think it's worth a 5 minute phone call IMO

And they won't cover the cost as they've had a lot of cars in this week with the same issue and they're blaming it on the weather as oppose to a technical fault which they might have paid for.

I'm going to take the door card off tonight and see what's occuring.

So basically the dealer is saying if you drive a Seat expect your windows to fall out in the winter!
If they have had a lot of incidents I would suggest there is a design fault and the car is not fit for purpose, I appreciate you need your car fixed asap but I would be kicking up a stink about that.

Not just Seat stealers.

Nearly all manufacturers stealers claim window mech failures in winter are driver abuse because you tried to put the window down when it was frozen shut.

When closing your window if it can detect an obstruction it will stop! Surely the same should apply when opening the window if it detects some resistance, the motor should cut out on torque rather than destroy the mechanism.
If it were me I would get the AA or the like involved, get one of their experts to examine the window/mech and see if they will fight your corner for you.

Tried a different dealer and they've taken a copy of my service book to send to Seat UK and I should get an answer tomorrow. Fingers crossed they seemed quite hopeful. ***** at Preston are absolutely terrible, I would never use them again.
