Hang on, I submitted a 'Built Not Bought' Readers Ride write up to Performance VW a couple of months ago. Is this what you're referring to? If so, wow! I never thought that would happen! I'm away with work at the moment, but looking on their website, the latest mag (Dec12) isn't out/available yet...

We'll see :D

Look forward to the read.

I'll have to buy it for the first time in years. Shame you're moving away from Lincoln before we've had a local meet. Are you around much before you go?

I'm not too sure TBH as I'm away with work at the min and were are not sure exactly when we are moving. Plus it needs new coil packs as one is failing... We"ll see.

It's out on Thursday as far as I can remember, look forward to havin a nose at this ;)

Thanks for that. The photos that were submitted are the ones that are pictured a couple of pages back. I look forward to the reading the brief write up. It'll be something nice to frame.

Thanks for that. How old is the little one now? Must 3 or 4 weeks old? Hope everything is well and that you're enjoying parenthood?

I'll post up a copy of the mini feature and my thoughts on Thursday/Friday. Super chuffed!!

Thanks buddy. There's probably too much of my waffle within the thread, but hopefully you've found it useful. I think it's known as the circle of blame, as we all end up doing something more from seeing others' work. It's probably one of the best things about these forums; gained motivation and ideas... Lots of ideas  /  / :D

PVW Mag time tomorrow. Can't wait to see my car in (small) print :)

Performance VW RR Featured – Dec 2012

I had submitted pictures and a brief write up about my car to PVW, for the ‘Built Not Bought’ section, in August/September. I was at the point where I thought I was actually going to sell the car, and I had decided to update my spec list on my thread for the purpose of reflection & soul searching more than anything. You know that ‘In love then out of Love’ cycle that we all go through…

I’ve read PVW religiously for the past three/four years and always wondered how some cars had made it into that section (in a nice way). I’d just taken some nice photos, having completed all the suspension work, and thought why not? An email was subsequently sent and truthfully, nothing more was thought of it, thinking that they must receive loads and loads of submissions and that with only three/four cars getting selected each month, likelihood was extremely low. Furthermore, Seats seem to get a raw deal IMO; some awesome Seats out there (especially within this forum) that aren’t the ‘norm’ but yet we don’t see many of them obtaining awards or features. Not sure why that is? Anyway, my car has been published within this month’s PVW Reader’s Ride section!

Here it is: (my scanner isn't working and I can't upload from the Mag Reader App, so I've had to take a photo with my iPhone, but it gives you an idea)...

The moral of the story is we take for granted just how much we, as car enthusiasts and owners, invest in our own projects and that constantly we compare our cars with our peers and instantly discredit and forget just how much effort, time and money (often little amounts in comparison to the big $$$ projects) we have put in; thinking that “ours isn’t as good”. In my case, it might not be as good as the next (Robdon’s, JonJay’s, JamJay’s, D.K’s, Toms, RDS’, Tyrer’s, Drka-Drka’s, El’s, Dolby’s, Ronin’s, Graham’s, JamesL’s, Murdered LCR…just to name a few LOL), but it’s still to a good standard and something I should be happy with. There are always more mods to be considered, but that’s the great thing about this forum (so I keep telling myself), it never lets you lose momentum or motivation. My pace might be slower than others’ but that’s ok, as long as I enjoy the car. Do I sound just a little rejuvenated???

I’m super chuffed with the write up and Pics. It might not seem much to others, but it’s nice to think that I have achieved (small) print through my own efforts. Maybe the car will be good enough for a full feature one day. I firmly doubt it but who knows??? But for now, our first born will become my primary focus, and the car might just sit in a garage for a while, but I can be sure that when I look at the feature (which will be framed and put in my garage/shed… sad I know) it will motivate me to move forward and not forget what I have achieved so far.

So, what’s next on the list then? Oh yeah, coil packs… :D

Car definitely deserves to be in the mag mate. Totally agree with what you are saying, we forget how much we do to these things and get caught up on the slightly negatives when we should just enjoy the positives.

Hope this clears your mind completely about the whole selling the car malarkey ;) Super feature with a really good write up

Congrats mate, it's well deserved. I love the attention to detail on your car. Don't put your efforts down it's definately one of the best on here, without a doubt my favourite OVNI :)

Wtf am I doing in there, I'm a cowboy compaired to most that lot. I just put some daft wheels on and did what many wouldn't think.

You should really have more confidence in your abilities mate, you've done everything yourself which is a awesome feeling. I get so angry at how many 'players' or bells in my eyes get so much credit for their cars when they just sent them somewhere and chucked money at them ( I include myself in that bracket too) which I still kick myself at how easy it is after I took the system apart. Your write ups are always dead professional looking with lots of info and pics. If I could go back I'd try make my thread more like yours. Defiently gonna make my 106 rallye build thread like this and get my ass in gear after afghan on my car.

Really looking forward to seeing this and other decent Leon's next year.

Thanks everyone :)

You know what it's like, you get cocooned in your own world and then look on here and go to shows where cars are just amazingly well kempt, and it's easy to focus on the nagatives as El said.
