Nice car and congratulations on your future arrival. I sold my modded MKV Golf GTI when my wife was pregnant and we bought a diesel estate. Don't do it you'll be miserable and 30 is not to old for some sillness!!!
Hopefully there will be a Lincoln meet in November if you fancy coming? It would be good to meet up and you can have a look at a Ovni yellow LCR that really needs a re spry!

Thanks for the invite buddy. I'll give it some thought.

In other news, I acquired a garage today, which is located at work. You'll know that I've been giving some thought as to what direction I should go with the car. Financially, I'm on target to buy an Audi A4 estate next June, which will be brilliant as a family car. Looking forward to S-Line luxury and a big boot. Just to confirm, people have rightly said the LCR is a good family car. Mine has the optional rear Recaro bucket seats, and a child's booster seat won't fit as it should, plus I wouldn't want a child messing up my immaculate interior... Heheh...

The LCR is going to be cleaned and fully detailed before being put away for the winter months. I'd really like to give some thought of where to go. With a garage, it can sit for as long as it takes to be ready to move forward with it. I think I've come to decision that the car will never go. I love it too much! It's going to become weekend driver obviously, and I want it to become an exceptional example, so extensive body work would be the first steps forward. It's all financially dependant of course!

There's some great examples within the Seat community, raising the bar constantly, with huge developments being made with 1.8T platform performance wise. There's nothing I'd want to replace the LCR within the same new-price price bracket.

So onwards and upwards!

I admire your attitude James. I think I feel the same about the LCR. Making it an exceptional standard will be awesome.

There are only a handful of truly nice LCRs left now unfortunately. :(

James congrats we are awaiting our first in the next 2 weeks, you will remember I was looking to change due to this also BUT we did a new A Class for her and decided the LCR was too practical with performance to look to change. The LCR has been a god send with the ikea trips and done me proud!

So at the age of 31 with a baby due in 2 weeks I can honestly say keep the LCR you won't get decent money so no point trading, I intend on a new motor for myself in 2 years but the LCR will be kept and garaged.

P.S get a 3d scan the are amazing

I hope everything goes well with the imminent arrival of your first child. It really is a very exciting but terrifying time... The thought of splitting my time seems a bit overwhelming but I guess that's natural for every parent. You'll finally get to use your Recaro buggy and car seat then...:) We're not sure about the 4-D scan, but we have our 20 Wk scan in 2 weeks.

I'm going to be away with work on and off for the next 4 weeks so I've put the car into my newly acquired garage. It hasn't been washed for about 4 weeks, so I'll wash it when I can, but at least it is in the dry and away from the elements, which is where it is going to stay for the next few months.

As always, I really enjoy tinkering with the car and now with a garage, the winter work can begin. So, my first step will be to remove the rear beam. The main purpose for this will be to fit the new Powerflex bushes. Whilst it is off, the rear beam will be rubbed down and either painted or powdercoated. The splash backs of the brakes will also be painted. I'll service the hubs and rear callipers. Maybe they will be repainted too. As the KW shocks were polished the other week, I'm going to have the rear springs and Neuspeed RARB re-powder coated too.

Also, i'm going to remove the rear arch linings and check the state of the inner arches. They're clean, but I may stone chip them along with the underside of the car. It's 9 years old now and when I think about keeping it, I'd want to keep it as rust-free as possible so this seems like an obvious bit of work whilst everything is off and accessible. The fronts would be done too. Then really the rolling stock would be A1. I'm giving myself until Christmas to get this done... Famous last words...

So, has anyone used spray can stone chip?? Any product recommendations would be great. Also I'm going to buy an Eazi bleed kit for the brakes and a brake pipe clamp. Again this is something I've never done so it'll be a learning experience... I'll search for a removal guide on here.

I guess the direction with all this is to steer the car towards a full respray and making it as nicer an example as it can be considering its age. It'll take a bit of time to get there but that's fine I think, especially with a garage now. Parting with this isn't what I want. I'll feel my way with time available once our baby arrives. If there's no time available then it might be in storage for a while, or it'll be sold to someone who can drive it/ enjoy it/ look after it as it should be. But for now, it's on with the show... :D

I love it when a plan doesn’t come together…

Moving House…

So, having moved county with work in March, I’ve just been told that I’m moving again… Back to my old work place in Norfolk… This time on promotion and with a nice pay rise. Great news mainly because my wife can remain in her current job in Cambs. So, I think we are moving in early Feb, just before the baby arrives; that should be ok as long as the baby doesn’t decide to make an early appearance.

I’ve therefore had to make the decision to not remove my rear beam at this point. It’s going to have to wait until next year, as are other things with the car. There’s a rear beam on eBay for £59, so I might buy that and I can send it away for powder coating and then transfer everything at that point. I’ve also been looking at the ECS 308mm rear brake discs, but just need to do a bit more research and decide whether it’s worth it. I would buy the 334mm front discs too (looks nice and would perform a little better with the engine bits in the future).

The car is sitting pretty in its temporary home. The garage looks quite a reasonable size in the picture, but there’s not much room at all. It’s filthy mind!

New Mats…

I bought a set of original LCR mats from eBay for £25 plus postage. They’re in pretty good nick. The driver’s mat has some mild wear but it’s not too bad. I’ve always wanted a pair of these, so I thought why not? This is the seller’s pic…

Air Lift Controls…

P1020940.jpg

I’d originally used a paddle momentary switch, which was aesthetically perfect but couldn’t hold the 50amp current, so burnt out. It’s been a bugger trying to find a switch that wouldn’t look out of place but would be able to cope with the current. First of all, I bought two starter motor push buttons.

P1030418.jpg

I made a new plinth for them, but once made, I just didn’t like the look of them at all…

I then went on the search for a new switch. I ended up going with a VW Camper switch, which is On/Off/On rated at 50 amps. Perfect!

P1030440.jpg

I’ve made a new plinth and incorporated some red LEDS within the air pressure gauge.

Following this guide:

I have attached it to the dimmer switch so that it matches the other lights within the cabin pretty much perfectly. Unfortunately, the switch is very much function over fashion, although it looks ok. I’ve sprayed the switch black to allow it to blend in a bit more, and overall I’m very happy with how it all works now.

Forge Washer Bottle Cap...

Seeing one of Dan’s (Murdered LCR) latest purchase, I’ve bought a Forge Washer Bottle Cap. It’s a nice bit of kit for £40.

P1030451.jpg

I’ve been away with work for the past three weeks; only 1 week to go. I’m off next Friday so I’m going to give the car a good wash and hoover, and get everything buttoned up before leaving it in the garage.

One down note is I think one of my coilpacks is on its way out as I’m getting the classic signs. I only replaced them 2 years ago and with limited mileage, I’m a little surprised they’ve gone so soon. So I’m going to buy the 2.0L conversation kit from PSI-Tuning. In any case, it’ll be future proofing it, if/as/when engine mods come…

Is the love coming back? I bloody hope so!

Thanks for reading :D

Good luck with the move and new job mate. Great updates on the car

Thanks El. The move should be all but finalised in the next week. I've just hoovered the car out and wiped down the plastics. Noticed the dreaded footwell dampness... I'll need to have a look at the door rubbers. Glad it's sat in the garage knowing this.

A coilpack is definitely on it's way out. It's running like a scubby with the engine light on... Money money money hey! Since it's sat in the garage, it seems to have gone tits up. What's that all about???

2.0L TFSI Coilpack Conversion

Can I ask, for anyone who has done the 2.0L TFSI coilpack conversion, when running the adapters and coilpacks, can you run the original spark plugs?

Surprisingly, Awesome GTI seem to be slightly cheaper than PSI-Tuning so i'll give them a call on Monday.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

I run NGK BKR7E plugs with mine gapped to 0.040" as i was recommended
This is a step colder than the OE plugs but this was done ready for getting the car mapped

A remap isn't a priority as any spare non-baby funds will be put towards to full respray, but in order to run the 2.0L packs, will it need to be remapped, or with the plugs you recommend will it run ok on its standard map? I believe 0.40 is the correct gapping for the 1.8L engines.

Thanks Ronin :)
