Does the grinding sound like its inside the car or outside? Do you feel anything down by your feet or is it purely through the wheel?

I sometimes got a slight scraping noise when turning the wheel, that turned out to be the plastics of the column shroud touching the back of the wheel a tiny amount.

Pretty sure it's coming from the engine bay somewhere, low down I think. It definitely doesn't sound close enough to be from the wheel itself. I was paying attention to it at the weekend, can't quite hear it when the steering is close to center but once it's a bit further out it's definitely there.

Nope, will do if it ever stops raining. Mind you, last time I looked I don't think my reservoir is see-through any more :)

Good job I didn't put PAS fluid in the brake reservoir then ;)

I'll take a look tomorrow if it's dry, cheers.

So Scarlett was on the rollers again yesterday to see if the FMIC had made any difference there. I'll scan and upload the graphs tomorrow but in short, power was up about 2 to 286.6 bhp but torque was slightly down by 4.4 to 277.0 lb/ft. It was a slightly warmer day though, 24C as opposed to 21.5C last time. I guess the fan in front of the car won't be able to push nearly as much air over the cooler and into the intake as it gets on the road either.

Took a quick log while on the rollers:

Wee bit more timing pull that I'd like to see there, particularly using newish NGK 7 grade iridium plugs and newish, latest-revision 1.8T coilpacks. I'd have thought the cooler would reduce those too.

Going to book the car in with Wallace Performance and have Matty do some more logging and tweak the map a bit. He said it felt like it was missing a bit when coming on boost (which I've noticed as well) and he and I are a little concerned about the boost spike, 25.5psi/1.7bar on the dyno, although I didn't manage to log boost with VAGCOM at the same time. I may still yet fit an MBC to curb the spike a little.

Had the car out for a run today tho, felt plenty quick enough, handling nice and neutral and the brakes are pretty sharp once warm, now they've bedded in a bit. Just going to get the map tweaked a little and enjoy the car as it is for a while :)

Looked and sounded good on Sat man, hope you get the boost spike sorted, strange indeed.

Cheers bud, good to chat to you again, was a good laugh on Sat. These K04s are spiky little fcukers, might still put in an MBC to keep it in check.

3" downpipe and de-cat will help those gases escape faster :)

Aye, and let's see how much cash you're splashing on your car when you're less than 7 months away from getting married! ;)

If one came up 2nd hand at a decent price I could maybe swing it but tbh I'm still 60% sure I'll change the car after the wedding anyway, so dropping a few hundred bucks on a DP and sports cat doesn't really stack up, wedding or no wedding. Unless I can convince her to let me keep the Leon as a track car

You probably are best keeping the leon, just tell her they are worth next to nowt so best to keep it as a 'toy' (maybe wedding present to yourself)
Downpipe did make a big difference on my car especially to the spool

So here's the graphs from the two runs on Saturday:

201209171758217700001.jpg

201209171758217700002.jpg

Looks fairly healthy apart from that 1.7bar boost spike, and the AFRs being a bit up and down. FPR maybe needs cleaned and/or changed? Actually, the AFRs take a dip about 2750rpm, right where boost is ramping up - that's about where Matty said it felt like it was missing - coincidence?

Matty also kindly overlaid Saturday's graph with one of the ones taken last time, back in June, for reference purposes:

201209171758217700003.jpg

201209171758217700004.jpg

Looking at the second page, the AFR drop about 2750 rpm was there back then, altho I have felt that hesitation/misfiring coming on boost ever since the car was mapped in December. Boost is a little better than before, coming in earlier in the rev range but not spiking quite as high as before.

Any input very welcome!

She did say if she gets pregnant after the wedding she might sell her MX-5 if I get a new car and she'll use the Leon. That seems like a pretty extreme length to go to to keep the Leon and get a new car tho ;)

If money was no object I'd just order a Cobra turbo-back system and be done with it, I heard one at the RR day and it sounded lovely and they're meant to be very well put together. Even just a DP and sports cat (I can't be arsed with MOT hassle) is almost the cost of the whole system tho so couldn't really justify it that way.

I'm interested in the Cobra turbo back system. However I've also got other things to spend my money on before that unfortunately:(. Wives and kids do complicate things:D. I'm also interested to hear that thay sound good as they're a well priced system.
Hope get that boost spike sorted out.
I found this and thought you might like it.

Nice car mate nice to see it in the flesh at last.

That's good power for what's done to it downpipe and decat would be just the ticket

I would ;)

Yeah the Cobra does sound nice, not quite as refined as a Milltek but not OTT either. I was actually inside the car with it on (x24sevenbikerx's car) while it was on the rollers as I was logging it, was a bit disappointed not to hear it from outside but it did sound nice from the cabin.

Cheers bud, think you maybe saw it at one meet last year, remember meeting you briefly one time at the Lidl carpark in Bucksburn.
