Oil light flashing

hi mate i had the same problem with my cupra mate started out little buzzing noise from engine and with oil light coming on all the time it turned out to be oil pick up blocked and oil pump packed up starved top of engine with oil i havnt long had engine rebuild si mine should be ok few years i hope lol hope this helps mate

yes oil pick up pipe and strainer gummed up

yea i will check it and do i just buy a new strainer and is the pick up pipe the pipe that goes up from the back to te top?

either "smash the dash" or take the screen off and hit the light with a screwdriver auntil it stops flashing, else you could disconnect the battery...

the strainer and pick up pipe are one piece and bolts straight onto the oil pump within the sump ,while you have the sump off invest in a magnetic sump bolt to collect any metallic foriegn bodies in the oil system

IIRC Bill discouraged against the magnetic sump plugs as they're aluminium and can cause issues with the threads of the sump. Just something to bear in mind - can't think what thread I read it in now, will have a look

hmmm... ill take the sump off this sat but while i got the car of the road i might get some parts powered coated...

peace of cake, the oil pick up is located at the bottom of the block in the sump.

Remove sump bolts
pull sump off
oil pick up is the pipe that has a bend in it with a strainer at the end wunt miss it
take it off,replace with new one and check your oil pump is working fine, i put mine in a bucket of petrol and put a drill on it also the petrol cleaned it out nice.
then replace it all back together, make sure you clean all the old sump gasket sealer off to make a nice new seal.

all in all looking at a 2 1/2 hours to do as the sump bolts take a while as there so many.

Agreed its just 2 10mm bolts that hold it to the pump take it off and blow it back though with an aiir line to blow all the crap off the metal gauze on the strainer

Hey lads i will throw a spanner in the mix. I got this oil pressure light with 3 beeps last christmas. It cam on and car lost all power and came to a stop started up again drove 10m happened again, then wouldn't start. turned out to be a F**ked ECU, water had got in and fried it. This light seems to indicate a lot of things
