Long story short ive had a dramatic couple of months just gone, im getting older, and i bought my Cupra on a bit of a impulse buy after seeing one, going out in one, this came up and i fell in love with it, but ive got to thing of more important things now, getting my own home and sorting some debts out, need to grow up a bit now im knocking on the door of 30yrs of age and stop running around like a mad child living a never ending dream !

Basically its a 52 reg (dec 2002) Leon Cupra 180, 121,000 miles, 9 months MOT, 6 months tax, RS6 18s, lowered on coilovers, Cupra R front bumper, HID head/foglights, cobra resonated cat back system, toyosports decat, forge 006 dv, pipercross panel filter, creationmotorsports TIP, recent turbo, and will be remapped soon to suit all mods as i cant sell it running how it is (bit rich), the exhaust was only fitted a few weeks ago.

I didnt pay much for it as it needed bits and bobs doing and tidying up, just been fully detailed, just curious as to what id get back for it as i aimed for a set price with my previous car and ended up taking £400 less than what i wanted :(

If you don't get the price you want, i would start ripping bits of e.g exhaust, bumper to get your money back that way.

I had a car before which was worth book price £1250 ish, but it had nice wheels, decent suspension setup, and had all the major engine work done, cambelt etc, was my pride and joy was immaculate, then i got messed around for weeks, had 3 people turn up then a guy won it on ebay and turned up and absolutely picked it to bits, i got £800 for it in the end... just soul destroying when you put your all into a car to sell it when your done with it only to have someone turn up and just go 100% negative all over it when theres nothing wrong with it..

i know mine is bog standard but i paid 1649 for mine, on 52 plate, with 82k on clock, mint inside , one lil dent on back where most ppl obviously pushed the boot closed, a car with mods seems to attract certain types of people, where as standard will broaden the buyers, good luck with it though

If you go on whatcar.co.uk they do free valuations just put your reg and mileage in, name email address etc then they give you a price what its worth in the trade, as part ex, private sale and what a dealer would sell it for. That will give you a guide and then just add a couple of hundred for your mods etc thats what i usually do aswell as looking around to see if you can find another car thats similar age model mileage etc

Test the water and put it up on here, the main area where people will look for modified Seat's

If not sell the bits and stick it up for £1500-£2000

Hi leoncupra2012,

On a good day, I'd say that you'd get around £2000 for it : do some research on Autotrader and eBay to see what the market's like.

About the previous car you let go for £800 instead of £1250, you should have held your ground and not accepted less than 1100 even under a very hard negotiation. You got out-haggled by a more experienced buyer, as obviously a buyer will try and criticize it as much as possible to get discount, just like conversely a seller will try and extol the virtues of something, to get the value to go up in your head and make it seem worth it.

In a negotiation, you've both got to be ready to walk away from the deal, that's part of your power, and it sounds like in boxing where you got pumeled in the corner.

To fight your way out of that situation, after saying how the car is worth the £1250 or whatever you're asking, for reason X,Y,Z you should then say you've got another buyer who is interested and if the guy who's with you doesn't want it, then you're in no rush and the other buyer is due later in the day.

I guarantee with that strategy, and as long as the car is worth the asking price in the first place, then you won't get mugged off again.

Always put the car up for a bit more than you want for it , ive sold a few cars now and as long as your price is realistic and the desciption is spot on you should get what you want, be patient too and make sure you dont have to rush to sell, the right buyer will come along and wont necessarily be the 1st to see ! I woudn't bother with ebay for a nice car like that, try Piston heads or Autotrader, they are well worth the small fee ! Good Luck;)

Just watch out for the old ........ I want to buy your car but I work abroad . A mate of mine will meet you at a container with the details of your payment route. Had a few mates that got emails from faulse buyers on auto trader. Oh and the dam companies that ring you and say , ' pay us £70 as we have 200 people near your area wanting a car like yours'.
Yes I'm a twat and fell for it. It don't work!!!

Im sorry but i agree, you are a Twat for falling for that !

This^^^...ive had these emails and looked at cars on the net forsale you can spot them scams a mile off!! Also who actually pays out money before looking at a car!? No one. Im not all clued on how the selling ones scam you i supose if your a mug and send the money without seeing the car then you deserve to get scammed. I just really cant believe people fall for those scams.

I don't earn a massive amount (yet ) - my 01 cupra is (fairly) standard but I find ways of using it as a commodity as well as a daily car. If you feel you're addicted to spending on the car, maybe time to chop it!

I know you have a few mods on there but waving timing belt/waterpump, tyres, brake discs etc is a way to show the car is strong and will also save the buyer money in the future. It may not be appreciated unless you explain what maintenance costs you've put into the car!

You may decide to keep the car in which case just try to use it less and be happy with what you've got.

I'm getting all teary

Anyway I paid £1650 for standard, 89k '01 last year (April) with 1 yr MOT 6 month tax

I paid £1950 for my 02 LC 86k totally standard, FSSH. I personally never look to buy already modified cars. As hypocritical as it sounds, my thought is 'if its modified, how can you guarantee the previous owner hasn't abused it?' Yes you may miss out on some bargains this way, but on the whole you'll get a nice base car that you can modify.

Sorry for the slight digression there - I'd take all the modified bits off and sell it as standard. Think of it like a house - the more its decorated toward a certain taste, the more niche the market becomes to sell it on.

Plus I'd dare say you'll get more selling the modifications seperately than as one package with the car.

I abuse mine, no point having stage 2 if you don't use it lol

Mods cost a lot of money, if you can get one with mods, and the owner knows what they do (lol) i'd be happy.

But agreed selling the mods should yield more cash
