Engine Swap Possibilities And Costs??

Hi people just thought i would see if it was possible to put a 1.2 TSI engine in my 1.4 MK5 Ibiza and if so how much do u guys think it would cost??? Or would the cost make it worth it in your eyes??? I await replys fank you

If you were guna do an engine swap, would you be better sticking something with some real go in it? People usually do engine swaps to get an 300brake Focus RS engine in a fiesta or the like. Something with wow. It can be done, im sure, but will cost a bomb, will mess insurance/dvla stuff up ect< there will be lots of red tape to do with those do im sure and when it comes to selling do you tell them about the swap (added value?) or tell them its a 1.2TSi, it is, but is that mis selling?

I wouldnt, not for 15-20 bhp?(I duno, the tsi puts out 105 right, normal 1.4 about 85 is it?)

MMMM maybe not, would be like David Cameron having a sex change it just would not work and be very wrong indeed. Definitely cause confusion and difficulty when trying to sell on, would you vote for Davina Cameron????? Mind you would you vote conservative who are as good at running the country as a Chineese knock off iPhone or a Peroda Nippa!!

Buy a new one.

The only engine swap worth doing, (imo) is to squeeze the 3.5bi-turbo used in the Audi TT and RS(x) models into it.

Now that would be crazy.

Fanks for the views and advice etc i never thought bout the selling on issues etc i would prob of jus said its a 1.2 TSI as what it would be lol. I got a small budget hence why i thought if can be done within it myt be worth doin as better engine spec as the new face lift ibiza looks ugly IMO.

Go to a Seat Dealer, bargin hard, get a good deal on yours and a good deal on a 1.2 TSI. Tell them about the facelift ect causing prices of the current shape to plummet. should help out.

It would be hugely expensive and a massively complicated job as a lot would need changing, definitely not worth it!

You are much better of trading it in for a 1.2 TSI Ibiza if that is what you want, will be cheaper in the long run as it would be worth more when you sell it on.

I already tried to get a new 1.2 TSI thinking that dealer would do great deals to clear stock for face lift i was told that there no petrols in the country only SE diesels . I also had look at last yr used ones but can't find any sportriders with climate bluetooth parking sensors etc that what i hoping to trade in for. My 1.4 will do 4 now still fairly new.

there are possibly better engines you could fit than the 1.2 tsi.... if your planning on doing an engine swap try looking into other manufacturers too.

Would need to be careful increasing the power that much, there will be a lot of components in that car which were not designed to take that sort of power. And remember that the 1.4 only has drum brakes on the rear and suspension that's not really that firm, unlike our cars.

A 1.4 TSi transplate would be more hassle than it's worth, it would be cheaper to sell up and buy a Cupra. It's not only the cost of the transplant and components but insurance etc.

If you REALLY want to do an engine conversion on your MK5 to a quicker engine then I would suggest looking at a 1.8T lump

Agreed, wise words.

I don't think some people commenting realise the massive cost and complexity involved in putting a TSI in, wouldn't be straight forward at all, and it genuinely would overall be cheaper to just trade it in for one!

personally i would say don't build what you can buy in terms of car to enegine platform, but as said its your money just do all your research . now a mk5 ibiza with 2.0 tfsi engine with a k04 that sounds great.
