Didnt mean to sound so blunt sorry :)

That transponder has to be matched to your ECU or anyone could get a key cut and pinch your car..

oviously if you use the transponder out of your original working key that will of allready been matched/programmed so will work.

yeah me too, i'm in the same boat. but chap above says that 434mhz worked when 433mhz was his original. so..... :confused:

but i'm still slightly confused with the whole reprogramming the remote situation. i understand the method involved but will it matter that I only have 1 immo chip? does that bare any relevance at all? just trying to work out exactly how/why it is required to put the new key in the car at all... the key cant tell its in there and there is no communication between the car and the key physically is there? its just a wireless tranmission.

anyway... my point is, if i get key listed above, get it cut, would the reprogramming it be - ok with just the one normal non-remote key i have?

also, if i have a immo chip in the new key is it possible to do with a vag-com cable myself?

Well I've taken the plunge and bought one of these myself, just hpping it works in my 2001 model then I'll go about getting an auto locksmith to program a new transponder.....fingers crossed!

Stealers want 45quid + vat to do it even though i have my own new key. for 5 mins work it seems a little disproportionate. :(

Seems a bit much for a simple 5 min job doesnt it.

Im told you can get your SKC with vag-com or vcds?? Not sure tho i only have the light version

think you have to use vagtacho to get it. dont know if you need a specific cable to do it though or if you can do it with normal vag-com cable.

need to find a copy of vagtacho though. doh

Ah yeah vag-tacho i think thats what my mate saidhed use to do it actually.

Is there no sharware version, trial version or something? I shall have a look cos ive got another blank flip key herewaiting to be done :)

well got mine cut just now. had to go around about 5 diff cutters in peterborough to do it though. noone (including timpsons) would do it. (both timpsons i tried were REALLY arsey about it.... couldnt get their head around me just wanting THIS METAL BIT to be cut like THIS METAL BIT... and thats it!... cretins)

cost me a tenner to get cut in the end. so so far i'm down nearly 30quid including parking to find somewhere to do it.


does anyone know how to take the blade off a flicky key so i can put the new one on? the guide just says to "do it" but no reference to how. i cant see any screws or owt in the metal bit which holds it on.

so its now a matter of replacing the immo chip and having effectively one key still... or attempting to reprogram the car... can anyone confirm if i was to do that, do i have to reprogram my original key back into it (ie does it wipe all the keys and start from scratch?) or just do my new one? i thought i read somewhere that it did wipe it and you could be left with the ECU not knowing any keys.

the immo chip thing looks well tricky to remove from the existing key, its pretty deep in the key and i wouldnt want to attempt to prize it out for fear of it breaking.. any tips on that side too?

Really?? Thats strange timpsons in oxford did mine no questions asked?? Even said ifitdidnt work cum back n theyll re do it.. Lucky as it didnt work first time..

And if i remember right, when reprograming the immob to the key you have to input how many keys youve got and programme them all at that time.

This is safety thing tho i guess as ifyou lost a key, then had replacements done. You wudnt want the original to work if someone found it..

Only tip i can give on getting the transponder out is take your time and use a brand new scalpel. I just cut all the plastic away from around it cos i didnt want to lever it out incase it snapped. Was easy enough tho

well looks like i'm going to have to go to the stealers after all since i cannot get vagtacho or commander to work with my vagcom cable :(

i'm going to have to do a swap of the transponder. unless there is someone around peterborough who has a vagtacho cable who would be willing to help? ;-)

man i suck at this, i cant even work out how to open the new flip key up.. screw is out but its not wanting to come apart. agghahgghghgh.

also... how does the transponder chip work exactly? i thought it was some kind of RFID thing
I put the new blade in the car and turned the key when the original key/transponder was *right* next to it , yet the light on the dash came on to say that theres a key in without a transponder.

does the transponder actually need to be physically in contact with the blade in the lock for it to work?

so many questions, so little replies :(

i've had a reply off of some (non seat) garage near me who can do it for me but he's saying

you need to confirm that your transponder is blank/virgin new and has never been used as the are programmable only once. EG if you fitted a new key blade to a 2nd hand key, that transponder won’t be able to be coded to your car.

This goes against everything i've read about the way immobilisers work. Isn't a matter of you need to program the ECU/car so that it knows about the transponder frequency.... its not possible to "program" the transponder therefore itself knows or cares not about the fact its being used in a different car.

ok well for what its worth, I ended up with Seat garage promising to program the transponder into my car for messing me around.. they tried and apparently they failed.

ended up just now just doing a transponder swap. shame really since i would have really have liked to have 2 car keys (which actually start the car)

one last question if anyone can be bothered... they said that the they couldnt program it citing something about dont buy things off ebay (well of course not.. they lose out on you spending £150 on a key with them) but it had a transponder in (i'm assuming all transponders will work with all cars.. its just a set freq after all?.. it was from a VW car key too) so either the transponder was knackered or they didnt even bother trying.

I'm guessing the latter. grr

well that was my point in my previous post! i thought that you do not actually program the transponder at all. is it not merely that you tell the car to accept that specific transponder?

Would the open boot button work if i bought the flip key with 3 buttons? Also i didnt understand the bit about the spring turning it counter clockwise? What do you actual turn counter clockwise? Thanks.

Transponder gets programed to the car so as said the transponder can only be programmed once. you will need to purchase a new transponder and get that programed to the car.

Leon mk1 has no solenoid in the boot lock only toledo so the boot unlock button wont work, i tried and failed on my FR TDi.

Hey guys, just read the whole topic. One question is not 100% clear - Is it a must to use the new remote part to make a new flip key? If I have a key that meets all the spec, but is already used (paired) in another car, can it be still paired to my Toledo or do I need a completely new key (not paired to any car)?

You can not reprogramme the transponder from any key there 1 time use. Need to use one allready programmed to your car or get a new one programmed.
The central locking bit can be programmed to your car tho.
