So when you turn your ignition on do the lights come on? Does it turn over fine or does it struggle?

It may be a blown fuse, there is a fuse that protects the Instrument panel and this is where the immobiliser is located (in the instrument panel). Where abouts in Derbyshire are you?

*edit*

It's possibly fuse #27 (5 Amp) or fuse #18 (10 Amp) both should turn the instrument panel off

Fuses are behind a plastic panel on the drivers side. Open the door and the panel is on the far end of the dash.

There should be a little card on the under side of the fuse box cover (the one on the side of the dash). fuse #1 is top left and #26 top right

Ok, checked all the fuses, battery voltage a tad over 12V which is fine, ran a full scan, every control module is complaining about missing communication, It looks like the instrument panel has died :( ,no LED illumination with the lights on, nothing. Any ideas ???

One thing I didn't think of doing while trying to help, was try the dash control module it's self, and didn't think to save the scan info either, but can't remember seeing it in the list, probably because the module was inaccessable.

I think this is more than a fuse, you need to et a laptop on it

**FYI RESULT**

Today we removed the instrument panel in the Cupra TDI (connectors were really tight, don't think it'd ever been removed before), and metered the voltages. 2 permanent lives, 2 lives that came on with the light switch. The instrument panel was only out a few minutes. We refitted it and it now all works as it should??? No explanation as to what was causing the fault, as the connections were wiggled about before removing it thus eliminating a bad connection, and that made no difference, still absolutely dead.

Below is a very similar case, and the same results on a PD100

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=293173

I wonder if just disconnecting the battery would have done the same job?? Anyway, thats 2 documented cases, both fixed by removing the instrument panel for a few minutes then reffiting it.
