Reversing a Leon

Yesterday I was reverse parking in a multi storey (oh that leads me onto something else, in a mo) and to my suprise the alarm on the volvo s40 next to me decided to go off at full volume :-o :hide:

I know this used to happen when I had a twin DTM on my old Astra, but I didn't think the LCR was that noisy, well not untill recently. In fact I'm sure my new one is much more boomey than my old one.

Has anyone got a clue why this would be?

This leads me onto reverse parking a Leon. I really can't judge the distance behind me  :hide: I always leave about a 4 mile gap.
I'm not sure if it's because it's my car or not, but when I had a company owned Ford Focus I had no troubles at all with that, in fact people used to comment on how good I was.

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

Steve

I tend to suffer from the 4 mile gap to. What happens is I reverse in as far as I think I can go. Then I go a bit further as I am aware of my misjudgement. Confident that you could'nty get a nats dnagly bits between my rear bumber and the next car i get out.............. to find you could park a volvo in the gap I've left.

In reference to the alarms, I am in the volvo's position. Got an alarm on my car that dont go off if u rock the car from side to side, but when someone drives past with loud exhaust (mates golf gti) then it goes off instantly, leaving me with a v flat battery!

No matter what I do to the adjustments on vibrations or tilt etc, i cannot find the happy medium. However, it is a shite alarm so it could be that! hehe....

Yeh My car has set of the alarms on many VW Golfs (of different specs, i.e. V6 4motion and TDIs) in our car park at work.

Makes me feel good about my exhaust  although the first time it happened I nearly poohed myself.... I thought I might have hit it .... but I hadn't :)

Cheers

I used to set the alarms of in my Leon Cupra (Miltek Exhaust).

I also suffered with the 4 mile gap on reverse parking, thought it was just me but when I asked various friends to park it they suffered the same fate. Maybe SEAT should install rear view camera's or sensors.

I did exactly the same and thought this must be soooo close, so I got out and had a look :roflmao: :hide: I could have fit a smart car in the gap.

Oh well at least I will never damage the back of my car.

the only thing i hate about my leon is the fact that the mirrors are usless, cant see jack out of them when reverse parking, even if i use the folding reverse mirror gatget, and yup.............i suffer from the 4 mile gap thingy too. the rest of the car always makes me happy so i will just make do with getting out every time i reverse to check my gaps

Its the high boot ligh and slanted window thats to blame. I had the exact same problem with my mums Mitsubishi Carisma but i'm pretty sure its worse in the Leon. Driving curtesy cars such as Ibiza's and Arosa's are almost a breath of fresh air in terms of parking. However, the high sides and small rear view window do make the Leon a very pretty car to look at so you have to trade one thing off against another.

I usually have the same problem of leaving about 4 foot at the back of mine.

Except the few times when I have made passing pedestrians stop and wince at how close I CAN get without touching. It all depends where I park.

It was a little tip I picked up from a friend. When you are parking anywhere, check if you are parking outside a building with plate glass windows.

Look across at your reflection in the windows, [B)] and you can judge your distance to the car behind from that.

The look of :scary: on people's faces when I'm moving backwards, and just stop with 1" to spare is a joy to watch. You can see them thinking "He's not going to stop, he's not going to stop...... Oh, he's stopped."

You can almost hear them give a huge sigh of relief when you stop.......
