Rob, dont forget to do a few cool down laps before you come off at each session. Once back in the paddock, find a flat place to park so you can leave the hand brake off so as not to boil the brake fluid..

I was at Oulton Park begining of last year in the Ibiza (AP 4 pots with DS2500's) and nearly set the brakes on fire. Just finished 8/9 VERY hot laps, approaching the last bend when the red flag come out (some pleb had fell off the track!!) and had to come straight into the pits. As soon as I was stationary I had smoke comming in throu the air vents, had to drive round the paddock for 5 mins to cool them down

LOL Damo, I could literally picture that as I read it. Must have been funny seeing smoke pouring through the vents and then realising you need to carry on moving even though your in the paddock, lol.

Ahh Mondello! Tight and twisty from what I remember seeing the touring cars visit there when they did on tv..

Enjoy mate! Be good if someone can get some pics of your car on track! :)

May aswell rinse those ds2500's just for Mondello tbh.. Then overhaul like you say.....

Ds2500's on OE disc's should be interesting, they said it more of a technical track with loads of hard braking rather than an all out top speed track, but this will be my first time out so i'll be defo taking it easy, that said i can see myself giving it the gun and smoking it.

Not sure if i will be able to get pic but i have my B-hague Ipod mount so i will be recording video and telemetry with the iPhone track cam app.

Wow Oulton park, i only ever drove that on the PS3 and had a hard enough time:happy:

But cheers for the tips lads, i would have never thought of a cool down lap.

Track day :)

Good evening all.

I had my first track day saturday in Mondello Park in Ireland, OMG, this is such a buzz, i really enjoyed myself and am eagering setting up my car for the next open day.

I was quiet anxious/excited having not being to a track day before i wasn't sure what to expect, but luckily the handling mods i did to my car really paid off. i had the boost turned down to 19psi for the day as not to cook stuff, it was a nice power flat power curve 19psi by 3200rpm and 18psi at redline, nice and consistant.

The day was wet to start with but did dry out, i was lucky enough to have a friend familar with the track go round with me.

Mondello park track is not an all out balls speed track, more a technical twisty track, its VERY hard on brakes as you will see by the end of the video i shot.

I found it very enjoyable to be able to push the car hard around corners and only had a few hairy moments but this is all a learning curve.

I was quiet happy with how i had progressed after about 15 laps, there is a lot of turns to remember and its very easy to spin off, over shot or get the wrong gear into any of the bends, it really looks easy when watching it on the TV, but anyone thats driven a track will tell you, it ain't easy.

I can't believe i haven't done this before, this is a 1000% more fun that adding shiny bits to my car, i have a new bug.

I made a video of some of my laps, its looks slow in the video but believe me when your there doing it it seems a whole lot faster, and i advise earphones when listening.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IdfMHL9h8I&feature=youtu.be

P.S thank you Ferrodo DS2500, my OEM pads would have melted and F U OEM brake fluid.

New disc's, pads, and race fluid on the way me thinks.

BTW, i put a G-force reading in the top right of the video, the top reading in +/- G force on acceleraton/braking and the bottom is G-force left/right.

Good effort mate :D

Love the 'no brakes' line lol!

LOL, i know, i got some fright, was even scarier is that i decided to pull of when i did, the next bend was a sharp right turn under heavy braking from about 85mph down to 20mph .

G;ad ypu engoyed it, Rob

Cheers, defo have the bug now.The vid really helps, i can watch it back, learn the track and see where i can improve.

You should do it, the only thing that let down on the day was using OE brake fluid, even thought the fluid was new it wasn't up to the amount of hard braking i had to do.

Yeah it really knocks your confidence, but my brake setup will be changed soon, especially the fluid, LOL. Track cam app rocks, very nifty when using a mount.

I need to get the damn thing built first, it is deffinately top of my list of things to do.
I have a couple of bottles of high temp fluid from Bill stored away somewhere so I should be alright.
I will be turning the boost right down for my first attempt I think!
I can imagine how addictive it must be though.
Bring on next summer I say! :D

I would turn your ESP/TCS off next time as i find it quite intrusive on the track.
I would have recommended an uprated brake fluid even with OE brakes, seen a few vids of no brakes
Interesting idea adding the G meter
Also a good cool down and warm up lap makes a big difference

Ah, welcome to my world :)
Glad to see your allowing the car to stretch its legs.
I'd strongly recommend a 2 piece brake set up.
At my home track your braking from about 110 mph to 30 mph.
I've now gone to DS3000 pads and love them.
With such a brake intensive track being on your back door don't scrimp on a new set up.
But don't feel the need to change your OEM calipers as there good enough.
Spend the cash on a decent 2 piece set up, good pads and fluid

TBH as it was my first time out i left the ESP/TCS on until i got some confidence, it was wet for most of the morning which didn't help, but as you said towards the end of the day it did start to interfere with acceleration, on the flip side i did see the light flash quit a bit while cornering, its must have had a great time trying to keep the car stable:happy:

Re the cool down lap, what you dont see in the video is there is a cool down area just off the pit lane you can drive your car around as not to interfere with people on the track, which suited me as there was 700bhp Evo's and ITCC cars out there giving it utter welly.

Thanks Willie, the only 2 piece brake discs i seen were, Bill's and Godspeed ones, but holy smokes are they pricey.

The Ds2500 i must say held up very well, the fluid didn't, i was half thinking about EBC ultimax, a new set of DS2500 or 3000 and racing brake fluid.

one piece disks cant dissipate the heat, so you will boil fluids, even good ones.
2-piece, whilst expensive are lighter and run much cooler when pressing on.

Bill, is the 330mm 2 piece disc as straight swap on the LCR or do i need extra stuff to make fit?

Awesome Mate ,can't wait to get mine out on the track when it's ready

Cheers, Its some buzz, have you had yours out before?

Has anybody ran brake ducting to help cooling, i could only find 2 decent threads.

I wouldnt bother cutting liners, etc for ducting just go 2 piece
If going for bill's setup you need:
2x Rotors (330mm)
2 x Bells
2 x Bolt kits
2 x Spacer brackets
possibly new pads to bed in with the disks and could uprate to 1 piece braided lines too
Also dont worry about turning the ESP off as its never fully off (annoyingly) but some of us who run stiff setups find it quite intrusive
After my trackday last month i had a nice blue tinge to my rotors but felt no fade and couldnt use them to their full potential as track was damp

Thee cheapest way of doing it is buying the same set up as John of Awesome, Cupramvr, has got.
Try pming him.
He's had several track days on his so im sure he'll be able to help you out.
