Formal acknowledgement of the car Maz. Nice to see that you've done your usual on the subject matter and I know it will be an overly pampered motor from here on.

It will be interesting where you take this as some how I don't think it will remain as standard by the end of next year (map et al).

A good friend of mine has an independent BMW specialist garage (specialising on M models and main dealer type set up - size, cleanliness etc). Not a plug or nothing (due to distance), but both him and Bill know BM's backwards. Mentioned your 335d to Damien and basically you can't beat the six's for quality and longevity of that motor. Far better than the four's (sorry Slick). Basically anything BMW and 6's are the ones to go with really, but we already knew that.

One other observation both Damien and I mentioned was the possibility of winter tyres as tbh these benefit BM's and Merc's immensely (the usual RWD and TC problems). As you're keeping the car for a decent length of time then a spare set of rims (slightly smaller) and winter tyres would be a pretty good move imo due to the usual BMW problems with snow and the torque of that engine.

Also don't forget to turn the TC off in the snow as you won't be going nowhere (that's of course if we get any this year). Just an opinion.

I dont think I will go as far as the Leon that is for sure but never say never. I have given it a lot of thought as to what I would actually do and only mods I would do in the future [in no particular order] is:

1) Remap - thought of 360BHP and 520LBFT is out of this world.
2) Strut brace - BMW Performance do a nice allu one.
3) Quaiff Diff - read up on these for the 335. Sound just as worth it as the one I had in the Leon.
4) Alloys - Another set of alloys, maybe genuine I am not sure. One set for winter with winter tyres and another set for summer. Cant go smaller alloys as they wont fit over the brakes, 18's just about fit now.
5) Carbon splash here and there. Tasteful ones of course.

In the end it may just be a remap and some carbon fibre. Car is very much sorted imo and going to take me a while to get used to the different dynamics before I can make judgment on areas of improvement.

I am sure we'll meet soon Lee and you can give me your opinion on the motor.

What an awesome car! I've been looking at these recently ( pre-facelift, cannot afford 10plate and newer ) I have heard they are really bad on fuel for a diesel though? And of course only available in auto? How are you finding the gearbox and what's it like on fuel? I read your reviews and they do really sell the 335d!

When ive got my sensible head on, this brings me down to the 330d or the 123d. I see your friend has the 123d up there aswell. This thread has just reinforced my want for any of the above cars mentioned haha probably the 123d in the end.

my brothers always been into bms currently has 320d msport convertible and younger sister has the new 320 d non convertible , father then has the X5 3.0d msport

i love the sports mode , by flicking gearstick to left (assume yours has this too and the difference in power delivery is aswsome compared to normal

i have liked the bm for along time , but been as half my family have them
6 close family members off top of my head with out looking at kind of makes me want something different to following their footsteps !! otherwise its being like a sheep (no welsh joke plz haha )

They are awesome cars indeed. Any excuse to go for a drive at the moment but being so powerful with ample of torque in any part of rev range makes the temptation to put your foot down a little too tempting.

If you can afford to get facelift then I would definitely go for a facelift version as they come with more kit as standard than the previous versions.

- LED rear lights
- Different front light clusters,
- Bonnet and boot lid were changed
- Rear track on some models increased by 24 mm.
- Interior had higher-quality materials and trim
- The front seats were equipped with crash activated head restraints
- The optional navigation system "Professional", that provided with an internal non-removable disk and high-speed keys (now supplied by Harman Becker instead of Siemens VDO).
- Updated iDrive

I also highly recommend the 123d. Superb car and really quick.

As for fuel economy around town I am getting 30mpg. On motorway it goes up considerably and can easily get 400-500miles out of the tank. For a car with this much power the economy is amazing.

Cheers for the reply, the 123d and pre facelift 330/335d is more in my price range, facelift 330/335d sadly isnt the rear end looks so much better on the facelift too! How big/ how much is the tank to fill, if you dont mind me asking, that mileage sounds pretty good and about what i do a week!

You will be happy with any of those 3 for sure. The size of the tank is 61ltrs.

my unlce sold his older shape 330d estate the other day (older shape model ,)

think he slod it for about 3-3.5k which i would of happily paid , full leather just had 4 new tyres and low milage , he rearly used it as he uses his people carrier more as that has a tow bar for the jetskis

never mind , one day i may get bored !!

for some reasons i been fancying jeeps lately , and not jsut for the bad weather but tax and mpg would probably be worse than what im getting now !

I switched off DTC for the first time tonight....my dear God the car is an animal. 428lb/ft from 1750rpm is a bit insane in 2nd. My heart is still racing by the vicious gut wrenching torque 20 minutes on.

Fuel Economy

For those Interested, with mainly 90% town driving and 10% motorway I achieved 310 miles with the trip computer showing another 80 in the tank left. This was a mix of normal and spirited driving.
