All,

In need of a bit of advise, I am in 2 minds about what to do about the engine build,

Option 1, have engine built and put k04 back on gather all the parts needed for the turbo conversion, then tear it all apart again to fit it all.
Option 2, have engine built and sit tight until all the parts have arrived for turbo conversion and put it all back together at once.

Now, if I go for option 2 then obviously I won't be able to run full boost or anywhere near it until the engine has been run in & what about mapping, will the engine run with all these changes enough to drive it to a mapper or should I send the ECU off to a mapper to be bench mapped and then drive it up the after it has been refitted and run in period reached?

When mine is built i will trailor it to a mapper as everyone says the first 20 miles or so are very important times.
Hopefully mine will be run in on a RR and i am retaining my K04 for the bottom end build.
I did look at bedding first then mapping but needing to progressively increase power during bedding and stroked block many have said it will be limp mode
I wouldnt want to bed an engine on stage 2 boost either
Once a few thousand miles is on it i will then swap then head for the largeport and fit mr garrett too then drive very carefully on actuator pressure fro mapping

I suppose the options really depend on how much you need the car, i did consider rebuidling my engine and sticking the k03s back on for running in but after working on the original turbo, i decided against it, its a complete pita to work on.

Just don't be too gentle, you have to put the engine under load to use the gasses to force the rings into the bores.
There's no need to run the engine in for thousands of miles, i am planning after 50-100 miles dump the mineral oil then refil with mineral and then change to fully synthetic at around 500 miles.

id either have a base map stuck on which is really really mild and run it in with the big turbo or just chuck all the ko4 back on and stick some miles on it first. Need plenty up and down the revs to bed the rings in properly. No good sitting at the same rpm for ages, wont bed the rings in properly. Can use a mineral oil to bed it in then swap that out for the proper oil.

Tis a sweet build gt30 20vt's are animals!

That needs to read MUST use mineral oil, using synthetic oil isn't a good idea as you actually want the rings the wear them selves in, using synthetic oil can cause the rings to glaze the bores. ....... Bad.

Alright picky :p

same with the revs, we've had customers install their engines we have built then come back to us saying its using loads of oil etc only to find out they 'bedded it in' by leaving it on idle the whole time!

Guys,

Really appreciate all the tips, I think i'm going to try and buy myself a £200 car for the winter and leave the Leon in the garage whilst I do the build.

Will the engine run ok after the build with bigger injectors, pumps, turbo etc? I'm guessing not?

Sounding good mate, you've been spending some serious money there !!!

Is the SEM a true large port as in for a AGU style head or large as in for the throttle body plate ??
