decided to give it a go and have a gas conversion done on my r mainly because im traveling alot of miles every day and the dam petrol prices are going sky high.

having a pinns system fitted which is suited for the 210 bph model and they are fitting it them selves which i am pleased about.

the cap for the gas is being placed behind my rear number plate on a sping loaded mechinisum which won't spoil the looks of the r and you will never know its there.will get some phot's in due corse.

really missing my baby.

yeah, hope it works well.

Let us know how it effects the performance and what miles per (hmmm... whatever you measure gas in) you get...

It's it cheaper to run gas than a TDi?

You're a very brave man, have you read about the previous 1.8T conversions that were 'less than successful' ??

Good luck, let us know how it goes, did they tell you to expect much power loss?

How much is this costing if you don't mind my asking?? Would be interested to see some piccys after too, could be worth considering given the present fuel prices, hows the engine gonna react?

There was a post on Birskoda recently about lpg-ing Octavia vRS ~ apparently the systems are much better now......

Not seen any true confirmation of this, but it's cetainly a field where there is constant development taking place.

the total cost is £1965 for a proper system. there are cheaper ones out there which they say can be fitted in a few days.....they told me to avoid these.

A couple of questions if i may :) where's the tank going? how much space does it take up? and how much does the whole thing cost?

cheers

the tank is going in my spare wheel compartment.it is a 47 litre tank i am having which will take up all the space.i could have had a 55 litre one but this would then be proud of the compartment and the cover will not sit flat......the 47 litre one fits perfectly.

not sure I'd like being without a spare wheel though...
You can stick the spare wheel on the back (with a plastic cover and a picture of an aminal on it)...

Can't you get a grant from the Government to help pay for LPG conversions?
Yeah but Seat isn't on the list of approved manufacturers/vehicles that get a grant. :(

but what does 26p a gallon actually work out at? whats the mpg? and how far do you get on a tank? did u mean 26p a litre?

If it's 1/2 price it'd save me about £20-£25 a week, so almost 2 years to pay for itself...

ok cool so if it did same mpg, then 26 instead of 80+ means about 70% saving on fuel...

so £50 a week fuel x 70% = £35 a week plus the odd longer trip, so say £40 a week means 50 weeks to recover cost... that's not too bad if it works...

I'll wait and see a few successful ones before I think about doing it tho [B)]

also LPG is not as efficient as petrol so there will be a slight loss of about 4 to 5 mpg although in reality you wont notice this as the gas is so cheap it is also a lot cleaner and easier on the engine oil. Tax on lpg is creeping up now that more people are getting converted and it will get worse now that they think it is not the enviroment saving angel that thet first thought but they would say that so they can bump up the tax It doesent matter if you pollute as long as you pay for it.

Well, with Optimax now costing 89.9p/l, I guess more people might be thinking about giving lpg a try!!

Hope this works out!!

Only concern I have is, if the lpg tank goes in the spare wheel well, with the inlet coming through the back bumper, what happens in an accident?? 2 of the read-enders I've had in previous cars have resulted in buckled spare wheel wells, and horse shoe shaped spare wheels... how much of a battering can an lpg tank take??
