Tried Admiral Group Jason, they came in at £2400 and £500 excess. Still bad really.

Lee - I know its insane. BMW dealers themselves said its a problem for them in the areas as they are losing business.

Maz, mine is with Swift Cover for £434 with £750 total excess and all the frills stripped out as I don't need a replacement car or breakdown cover (warranty covers that). I limited mileage to 8k per year, it has a tracker, it is garaged overnight, SDP+Business coverage, not protected the NCD but did have the legal cover.

On the BMW forums they are saying that it comes out less also if you say you park it on the street rather than a driveway (assuming you don't garage it). The theory being that if its on your drive, any thieving bar-stewards know which house to break into for the keys.

Just done the same as above.

746 quid. FC 250 excess. Public street. SDP and commute
715 quid FC 250 excess. Private drive. "
692 quid FC 250 excess. Garaged. "

Same as last price if just SDP.

I bet Flux would get that down for me as the comparison sites are always a couple of hundred pounds more.

Did we not see Mr BMW yesterday still then?

I still think the quotes you're receiving are ridiculous as surely all quotes should be relative.

Anyways????....... where to next??

Time?

I stated Garage and it made not difference to the price. All the insurers said its the type and car and location.

I went to BMW this weekend and test drove the 335i and the 335d. I will write my thoughts on both when I actually decided on which one I am getting however I am strongly drawn towards the 335d. Amazingly quick machine and apparently quicker 0-60 time than BMW stated. BMW say its 6s flat however everyone says its more 5.5 GPS verified etc...With a remap it can be lower.

Have you spoken to Honeyman yet Maz? He traded 'down' to a 335D from an M3 and as far as i can tell, he's not looking back :)
Haven't spoken to him but I believe Ian got a 330D which is a 3ltr single turbo where as the 335d is a 3ltr twin turbo.

330D
Power Output 245 bhp
Torque 520 Nm 384 lb-ft
0-60mph - 6.2s

335D
Power Output 286 bhp
Torque 580 Nm 428 lb-ft
0-60mph - 6s

Either way ... he said he doesn't miss the M3 :)

Looking at the power differences, the 330D is still a cracker of a car.
Thats good. There are actually BMW performance upgrades that are available to me should I ever want to mod the car i.e. big brakes, arbs, strut braces. Its not in my agenda to modify the car unless there are some problems I haven't read about.

Definitely - they remap really well too.

Basically it's got the power you'd like yours to have and it's newer, different, RWD, nicer inside and a proper step up.

What's not to like :)

The ONLY thing that puts me off is the price of the bloody things but if i was ten years younger and could afford it ... why the hell not :)

You got it in one there Pat. When i get it I am going to do the rounds visiting people, your on the list.

You are right Tom it is just an awesome car out of the box from the start. Of course its no M3 and I am gutted that the dream has gone but as my mrs says, in a couple of years I can always trade up and hopefully insurance will be kinder. Remap should bring 340-360bhp and 520lb/ft of torque, I think the tyres will hate me.

335D would be a good choice mate. So much grunt, no slouch of a car and a nice motor to cover ground in.
Thanks Andy. I know its not an M3 but maybe in a couple of years insurance will be kinder. Wouldnt mind meeting up and having a ride in your M3 to see what M is all about.

And the insurance numbers??
The computers are quoting around £1300. I am sure now that its not a 4.0 V8, the insurers can get that to a much more respectable number when I give them a ring this week.

As you can see it can use a little bit of a detail. I will make sure I give it a good looking over before I make any offer to purchase it.
