anyone can tell me if 17" wheels will fit on a Leon cupra R as it will be easier to get/fit winter type tyres for 17" wheels?

Also anyone recomend a good make of winter/snow tyres?

anyone know what size SEAT recomend for winter use and what tyres?

Im asking as been at the highest point in County Durham (far NE England)it snows alot here and can even be clear 5 miles down the road for instance and the council have really cut back on winter gritting and plowing to save costs.

I can just see me going nowere in the leon when it arrives as my ibiza GTI 16V was totally useless in the snow and my golf GTI is not much better unless i have some winter tyres on it.

The 17" cupra alloys don't fit over, there may be a very slim chance that steel rims may fir over. Haven't heard of anyone trying it yet ?

Yes they do. I've seen picks of a Brembo'd Cupra R with the Cupra 4 alloys on. Can't remember where though to repost it.

had REAL bad experiance with chains in the past and i really want to keep the bodywork in its original shape this time.
Also if you encounter a clean road or only a slight covering like a mager mager road near town will have you have to remove the chains as its against the law to not so i will be in and out the car all the time.
As it often snows for days and days here its worth changing the wheels/tyres, as i have a wheels free ramp/windy gun changing them is not a slow job anyway. I did my golfs this morning in about 5 mins in the nice warmth and dry.
SEAT use to have recomendations for snow/winter tyres as did audi/VW but i just got a blank look from the guy on the parts desk at my local dealer today (mind thats nothing new either:p )

I could get another set of 18s and tyres but i thought if 17s fit at least the tyre walls may have a little more give and thats handy in winter as well as tyres/wheels will be cheaper. I should have the winter tyre recomendations somewere for the S3 will have to go in the attic and go through all my Volkswagen & audi mags.

any idea if the 17" audi S3 wheels have the same stud patten and offset as im sure i could get a set of second hand ones for reasonable money. Unless someone can recomend were to get cheap alloys or steels to fit?

there as been some threads with the topic LCR and winter tyres the last month i think

if i had a LCR or leon with brembo front, then i would get 17" with 215/45-17 winter tyres, and you can even get LCR wheels in 17" (same as 18" LCR) from seat in 7,5*17" as OEM part.
(17" LCR wheels part number: 1ML 601 025 B)

or just get other 17" wheels that will clear the brakes?

i can recomend continental winter tyres:
if 16" get the TS830 model,
if 17"/18" get the TS830P model

i have the ts830 16" on my LC in the winter.

17" rims, Brembo clearance without spacers:

I started a thread about this a month or so ago, was looking at getting some alloys just for the winter tyres. In the end I just order some 18" winters Hankook w300 from my local tyre place for £500. After a little research I found that to be a decent price coupled with the fact they will fit the winters when i want them and refit my regular tyres at the end of winter couldn't go wrong really.

I'm keeping a look out for some suitable wheels also, but happy to run the winters on the standard LCR rims.

Hopefully they'll be much improved in the cold conditions
