Hi,

Thought id stick up a project thread to document any progress made on my car. Firstly a bit about me, I usually hang about on the SXOC as 2 of my previous cars have been tuned Nissan 200sx's the last one producing 333bhp (pictured below)

After trying to get "sensible" with a Ep3 Civic type R i couldnt really get comfortable with the Vtec and missed a turbo... however I didnt want a car as "reliability challenged" as the Nissan... So I bought a Sep 04 Seat Leon Cupra R in I think Emocion Red

The car is VERY clean and looks like it has benefitted from being detailed in the not so distant past. Anyway I got together with tigertim001 on here to take a few quick snaps of both of our Cupra r's - (mines the red one)

Overall Im very pleased with it and have already made quite a large list of potential future plans :)

Thanks for looking!

And already I have a problem with the car.... The temperature guage gets up to temp ok and then drops back to 60 whilst im driving! It then fluctuates around between the two but importantly never goes anywhere over 90.

So much for german reliability lol although im hoping its something stupid! I was thinking either the thermostat or more likely the coolant temperature sensor on the top radiator pipe as i think this is the one that feeds the guages?

Any help and comments always welcome!

Very nice car mate. Good on your for joining the LCR clan after owning a S14. My mate has one and we banter all the time over the two so I'll show him this :p

After owning a s14a myself also, id say the LCR is a much better car to live with, although it was running stage 3 at about 360bhp lol. Cupra r's FTW though

Thanks for all the comments! I'm pleased I've finally got one, was definatly a car on my list of things to own!! Future plans are all simple bits and bobs, I want to keep the OEM kind of look, more than likely dropping it a tad on eibach springs, and usual stage 1 goodies, but most of all I want to keep the overall reliability although it isn't living up to that last bit at te moment!

I got my replacement temp sensor at lunch so will set about replacing that when I'm in! I've also read there is another sensor in the thermostat housing?? Or is that just in the AMK engines?

Hopefully there will be a few small parcels arriving in the post soon but I'll keep updating with any progress!

Nice motor, looks well and a big difference from the SX!!

Great cars these, I had the same plan as you, keep it reliable and stage 1... after 13months I want stage 2 now haha

Lol there's always going to be temptations, however I like the look of them in standard form ad I've limited myself to stage 1 max, I'm not after headline figures I'd rather make the car good and strong ad I think there's definatly the potential!

I'll be a lot happier when it's running right, things like this temp gauge issue grate on me more than they should! Lol

Update time, we swapped out the engine temp sensor which seems to have cured the temp issues! Does anyone know at what point the electric fans cut in at?

I noticed too a slight squeak coming from the engine, it's intermittent but comin from the pulley area...

Am thinking it could be waterpump ish and even though the cambelt was done 30k miles ago I'm thinking it's worth getting them both replaced for piece of mind!

All thoughts welcome

Car is booked in at Seat St Albans next Thursday for a new cambelt tensioner and waterpump, for piece of mind more than anything! When I get hte car back I'll be dropping the oil and replacing the plugs and all filters, hopefully then I'll have a relatively bulletproof car!

Just got the car back from seat St albans, who I'd thoroughly recommend -service was excellent! Whilst it was there the cambelt, waterpump and thermostat was all replaced. This has completely fixed the temp issues and the car is running perfectly!

I haven't checked the fans kicking in yet, anyone know when they start?

Cheers, it's pretty clean and gets comments where're I take it, even the seat dealer said it was one of the "few good ones left" always nice to hear!

Following from this my plans are to keep the car looking as good if not better than it does now, ive signed up on detailing world so hope to bring it up to standard!

Mechanically I'm looking at stage 1 modifications, a small drop whether I use coilovers or springs I haven't decided! Plus a few small bits to make it "mine"
