That will be more stiff than the OEM set up for sure.
I know what its like scraping seam sealer.
I'm currently helping my mate with a complete strip and build of a Berg style MK1 Golf track car.

Just had a read of your mates c2 build thread, its totally awesome, absolutely love stuff like that. Makes my build look a bit tame !!!!

There's always plenty of room for a monster engine in the rear if you like :p Nah the word tame is not for this build, awesome stuff. Keep going dude, doing a brill job of it. Can't wait to see it up and running

Theres good reason as many threads have been started about this but no-one has actually done it. Fingers crossed for you mate.

Thanks for all the comments again lads - really keeping me pushing on with the project.

Well didn't start grafting till lunch time but got some progress made on the Leon shell.

Started drilling out spot welds yesterday but decided to get the plasma out and remove parts in chunks rather than the whole assembly.
Once i've got all the panels out i will drill out the remaining spot welds and remove the little bit of metal round the joining pieces.
Me love my plasma cutter - the best £260 quid i've spent so far on the project.

Anyhow started by cutting a hole above where the petrol tank normally sits -

I did this to give me good access to the frame rails, i then seperated the frame rails from the body just behind the joint on the rail, and cut up the wheel arch.
I then kept cutting away at it until the frame rail was seperated -

I also cut round the boot floor and the rear quarter where the body joins to the section to be removed.

I think by tomorrow i should have all the parts out of the leon shell ready to start prepping it and removing all the little bits / joints prior to refitting of the s3 shell.

Spot weld drilling is a proper PITA, if you haven't done it before start with the not too important ones.
The best results I've had was with cleaning the heads up so you can see exactly where the spot is.
Then I centre dabbed the centre of the spot weld to give me an accurate guide.
When drilling you'll get a feel for when your through.

Plasma cutters are truely awseome, I remember the first time I used one I was like :-o

So much easier than a cutting wheel in a grinder :D

Agreed, and £260 for one sounds a bargain.

Out of interest Graham, whats the cutting limit of the Plasma?

It says on the paperwork its 1-12mm cutting limit....

The type is a CT416 search on fleabay and it will come up, it comes with everything you need exept a decent mask, the supplied mask is hand held and poo...

The new one at work that I've just wired in will do 26mm, its a beast :D

Wow 26mm it must be a beast, bet i could do some serious damage with that :)

Had another full day on the car today, woke up this morning and started looking at the hole in the back and had a thought about wether or not i actually need mental help.....:help:

So after doubting myself for a millisecond i starting grafting and managed to get the passenger side chassis leg out with the help of my new best friend Mr Plasma -

Then after a quick coffee and a bacon sarnie I plasma cut round the other wheel arch and finished off cutting the boot floor.
Then after much wiggling and prying i used newtons favourite finding - gravity to help drop the back end out -

Well i'm quite pleased with this weekends work, done exactly what i wanted to get done which was get the cupra shell stripped.

Really can't believe i'm this far.... so i've just got to trim and drill the remaining spot welds and prep the joints in the cupra shell in preperation for getting the s3 back in next weekend.

You are a legend, loving this thread. I looking forward to next sunday just so I can read your progress, but I'd be crying if I opened my boot and saw the floor lol. :)
