mk1 Seat Leon Leon Cupra R – Paint Enhancement Hybrid Detail

My mate Dave had his blue BMW detailed last year that was a little worse for wear. Thread can be found here: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=152929

This time it was his pride and joys turn for a little spruce up. Being a mate, I just said “yea bring it down we will sort it out”. Oh dear, what a mistake that was…lol!

This might be the worst one yet.

Didn’t look to bad when you stood back
DSCF4037.JPG

Alloy Wheels

Wheels were cleaned with Bilberry Wheel cleaner and then treated with Wolfs Deironiser. Not too much fallout.

Snowfoam

Snow foamed with ValetPro – As you can see it done a great job on clearing away the bird bomb. Car was re-foamed once the car was rinsed.

Car was taken into my workshop and the swirls and RDS were shocking.

After 1 hit with Menz IP. Really deep RDS here – I was shocked.
DSCF4081.JPG

Took another depth measurement just to be sure paint level was healthy.

After 2 hits of Menz IP achieved desired results.

50/50 – oh dear
DSCF4087.JPG

It was clear at this stage that the car needed a massive amount of work and effort to get her back to her former glory. Dave and I decided to proceed as a paint enhancement but on some panels I would go the extra mile to get a nice result. There was still RDS present on some panels but knowing when to stop and move on was key.

At this stage I was wasting a lot of time fighting buffer trails left from the rotary and the Sonus Swirlbuster Pad. The paint was soft by VAG standards so I thought it would be better to move onto DA and see how I got on.

Car looking good.

DSCF4158.JPG

Britemax #4 chosen to give a nice deep shine. This was applied with a finishing pad and a DA.

DSCF4159.JPG

I chose CG XXX Hardcore Paste Wax. I really do feel this is a very underrated wax and not sure why it is overlooked? It gives a decent wet look finish, decent durability and at a very reasonable price.

What a hard hard days work! This was a paint enhancement / correction hybrid detail. Really needed 2 days to refine the finish further and get those deeper RDS lessened. Glad to report Dave was pleased with the look overall and always good when you have a happy friend appreciating your work. He was especially pleased with engine bay being so clean considering its never been cleaned…ever.

Thanks Dave!

Detailers Notes

- One polish for the whole car? Doesn’t always work out that way
- Decide on whether it’s an enhancement or correction to manage your own expectations better.

Cheers Maz excellent job. Sorry it was a struggle but didn't want to make it too easy for you. Next time shouldn't take all day. I know I wanted wet look not that wet bloody rain.

Amazing work once again! - Those swirls looked very similar to the ones sitting all over my car! I need some proper time off work so I can get my teeth into mine.

Interesting that you found the paint to be quite soft - mines like bloody tank armour.

I dip in and out of the detailing forum - always love these threads though - thats some real fantastic work that youve done there. If I were the owner I'd be over the bloody moon. Now why arent any of my friends willing to do this...
