On another note, got my old alloys sold.. good price too.

Told him I would refurb them for him.. so it looks like I'll get these redone b4 I get my new ones done! lol

I'll put up how I get on with it on here, hopefully if it goes well it may help someone wanting to do the same.

So far I've just got the tyres off, powerwashed and scrubbed the alloys today...

In those pictures they don't look to bad at all. But two are pretty badly kerbbed, and thers scuff marks on all of them. Plus he was lookin 4 a colour change.

Anyone know what this colour is and where I could get it?

Got the wheels sanded down to bare metal where there are kerbing / deep scuff marks that I wanted to fill in and smooth out.. Used a p80 grit sand paper for this.

Then I went and filled all of the marks with chemical metal.. This stuff dries rapid! So I'd advise to only use as much as you need for one wheel at a time.

I've no pics for the next stage, but I used 120 grit paper to rub the chemical metal down to almost the alloy, the used 240 grit wet/dry paper on it to get it super smooth level with the alloy.

The inside/back of the rim wasn't that important cos it won't be seen when the wheel is on the car, but I decided to give it a general sand down anyway, used a wet sheet of 120 grit paper for it, this removed all of the tar spots aswel.

I then used paint preparation wipes to remove dust and any grease that was on the wheels, and dried it off with a towel.

Shaking it for 2mins, I got out a can of etch primer and gently went over the parts of exposed metal that I had put the filler on - I'll stress the gently part cos the etch primer will react with the wheel if too much is put on. Gave all these parts a few light coats and left overnight to dry.. (the inside of the rim was done first)

Got all the alloys primered today. Did the inside of each rim first:

Also sanded down the centre caps and primered them aswell:

They dried off pretty quick so I was able to spray them the colour I'm doing the wheels in and sprayed lacquer after that dried:

All there is to do now is to spray the wheels. but I want to take it slowly on them. Want to get it right...

Should of done what I did on my old alloys and masked up the centre S and cut round it using a craft knife then sprayed them do it keeps the shiny S badge :)

I wanted to do that myself, but he wanted them all the same colour as the alloy..

I agree. Souds very fiddly though.
Is it a black chrome you've went for?

It's a BMW colour, 'Sparkling Graphite' those pics are a little dark.. here's a better picture of the colour on a different alloy (and how I'm hoping they'll turn out):

Sprayed the outer rim first to give it an extra coat around the edge.

not a problem mate.

They're just clipped into place as far as I can remember.. you need to give them a good hard pull to get them out. mine were very stiff so i slid a cable round the slats and pulled it out with that.
